  • MMP 019 : How I Got a New Job and Upgraded My Career
Today I am extremely grateful to announce that I just started a new job. And not only that, but it is a job that has shortened my commute to work, compensates me much better and is within an emerging industry that will likely open more doors as my career progresses (the big data industry). Now, I'm not telling you this to brag about my cool new job. On the contrary, I actually feel a bit awkward talking about it. But in taking such a big step forward in my career and life, I feel that it is my obligation to share how this opportunity came about and how I positioned myself to be the top candidate for the role. This one is just a quick solo episode, but I tried to load it up with as much useful content as I could. Let me know what you think in the comments below, and how I can help you find your dream job!

  • MMP 018 : Build Thriving Relationships With Other Generations w/ Ryan Jenkins
Everyone and their cousin twice removed is talking about the stereotypes Millennials fall into. I can't blame them, it's easy to talk about and there are millions of sources you can quote on the topic. So today, I wanted to look at the generational divide from a different perspective. What misconceptions and overgeneralizations do we Millennials have about the other generations? That is the question I set out to answer when I connected with Ryan Jenkins. A leading blogger, podcaster and keynote speaker on the topic of Millennials and their relationships with other generations, it's not surprising that Ryan had some great insight on the topic. We get into:
    • Communication between Millennials and other generations
    • Misconceptions of Gen X and Baby Boomers
    • What to know about the emerging Generation Z
    • Much, much more

  • MMP 016 : How to Start a Successful Marketing Agency in NYC in Your 20s
Some folks might not advise a 20-something-year-old to quit a VP position at powerhouse consumer packaged goods company Reckitt Benckiser, owner of household brands like Lysol, Air Wick, Mucinex and many more you would know, to gamble on their own entrepreneurial venture. Some folks might call that a "bad plan". But those folks clearly do not know Dionna McPhatter, the Co-Founder and Managing Partner of BLKBOX, a Millennial marketing agency in NYC. You see, Dionna, along with her business partner Keenan Beasley, had identified a very tangible opportunity and carefully calculated that it had a big enough value proposition to leave their Fortune 500 careers in the rearview mirror. Now seeing the rapid success of BLKBOX, many folks might call this a "good plan". In this week's episode, I had the opportunity to discuss the strategies, practices and mindset Dionna used to make her dream a reality. In this conversation, Dionna walks us through the key principles she learned at West Point that helped her achieve success in the business world, the true meaning and importance of "personal branding", how to identify and evaluate opportunities, along with much, much more. To connect with Dionna or learn more about BLKBOX, you can follow her on Twitter @dphat23 or visit www.weareblkbox.com. I hope you enjoy my conversation with the very smart and undeniably inspirational Dionna McPhatter!

  • MMP 015 : The Greatest Opportunities and Challenges of the MiLLENNiAL Generation w/ Britt Hysen
It seems that everywhere you look these days, you find a stereotype of the millennial generation. We've all heard the same story told over and over. Millennials are lazy, dependent on their parents, impatient and (my personal favorite) oh so entitled. Britt Hysen heard these generalizations too, but they didn't align with what she could see happening around her. So she decided to build a platform to express inspirational millennial stories from around the globe. And thus was born MiLLENNiAL Magazine, an online publication with a mission to spread the powerful stories not being told about gen Y. She now acts as the magazine's Editor-in-Chief. Britt joins me this week to discuss the inspiration behind MiLLENNiAL and some of the biggest challenges and opportunities our generation faces. Being an early influencer in the "millennial scene", Britt has become known as an expert on the successes of the generation. Her publication helps to dispel the negative reputation that follows millennials like a black cloud. The millennial stereotype may not change overnight, but may be salvaged moving forward thanks to the efforts of inspirational thought leaders like Britt. Learn more at millennialmagazine.com.

  • MMP 014 : Military Principles To Level Up Your Career and Life
With nearly 30 years in the Air Force on 10 different assignments, Colonel (retired) Ron Yakkel has a deep understanding of the fundamental and advanced Air Force principles that lead to a successful career. He has now taken that military foundation and translated it into a civilian capacity as an Instructor of Security Cooperation and the Regional Seminar Director for the Indo-Asia Pacific Region at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH. It would be an understatement to say that I'm lucky to have known Colonel Yakkel for quite literally my entire life, as he happens to be my mother's brother. That's right, the man who many have saluted as their ranking officer has always been "Uncle Ron" to me. So this episode was a real treat for me to be able to dive into some of the specific military principles that millennials can apply to their own lives to achieve massive success.
