  • Multiclass Madness - Calamity Jane Goodall with Jarred and Kevin from Monsters and Multiclass

This week on World Forge we're joined by two very special guests, Jarred and Kevin from the wonderful Monsters and Multiclass podcast!

Monsters and Multiclass is a show about exploring weird multiclass options, so we decided it would be fun to build a party based on some of the wild and wacky combinations they've explored in episodes past!

Monsters and Multiclass can be found on twitter @monsters_multi and on all major podcasting platforms.  We definitely recommend you go and check out their show, as well as our other rec room recommendation this week: Cameron Day of Daylight Publications!  We had the opportunity to look at The Garradrugh, a really interesting supplement published by Cam in an episode we released a few weeks ago, but it seemed fitting to talk about it again given the unique party composition we were able to explore today.  The Garradrugh can be found here on drivethrurpg!

As always, if you enjoyed this episode or want to share any feedback please consider reaching to us on on social media! We can be found on twitter @worldforgepod. We're also available via email at [email protected]. We love to hear about all the ways you use and improve upon our ideas, and if you show us something really interesting we may just share it on air! And if you're feeling REALLY generous, please leave us a review on Apple Podcasts, or your podcasting app of choice! We also want to thank James Duke for our amazing theme music, he can be found at jamesduke.info! Thanks again listeners, we'll be back again next week!

  • Building Listener Requested Kingdoms - Total Eclipse of the Dragonheart

This week on World Forge we're taking a listener request to help them expand upon a world they've been working on! We were given a short description of the world thus far, some important ideas that needed exploring, and were set loose! We had a great time talking about some exciting worlds that we love, and trying to populate the land of Statavita with interesting people, places, and things.

We made a few recommendations this time around as well. If you didn't check out Vaati Vidya after our recommendation a few weeks ago here's another link to his channel. He has some incredible breakdowns of the lore of the places and enemies across the worlds of Dark Souls and Bloodborne. We also recommend you check out Dwarf Fortress if you're a fan of torturously complex games and worlds. I've taken a lot of inspiration from my Dwarf Fortress games for my campaigns over the years and I think it's a great resource for anyone looking to fill their games with a massive influx of characters, artifacts, or strange happenings. Dwarf Fortress can be found for free at http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/

  • Mobsters, Crime Bosses, and Criminal Organizations - Gangs of Locktower City

Hello listeners! It's no secret that on this show we love villains, but this week we're talking about a very specific type of villain: the boss. We're delving into what makes the most perfectly intimidating criminal mastermind, crime lord, or mob boss! We've been watching a lot of Boardwalk Empire lately (which is our recommendation for the week!) and it's just got us raring to talk about the bad guys that you love to hate. We cover how these characters rule through power, fear, or charisma, and how to write an effectively terrifying mob boss of your own! If you enjoyed this episode or want to share any feedback about how you think the Union of Locksmiths and the High Tower of Acrobats will get on after we left them please consider reaching to us on on social media! We can be found on twitter @worldforgepod. We're also available via email at [email protected]. • Drawing Inspiration from Dreams and Crafting Interesting Visions and Prophecies - Dream Police
Welcome back dear listeners to World Forge! This week we reached out to our twitter following to get some examples of interesting dreams, both real and imagined, to demonstrate their potential for inspiring adventures and stories. We take a few examples of our favorite listener shared dreams and use them to kickstart this weeks creations, we also talk about all of the different ways dreams can be used in our roleplaying games!
Our exploration covers the waking world as well however, and we cover a broad spectrum of dream-like experiences!
Our rec room recommendation for the week is a favorite animated movie our ours that deals with the concept of the dreamworld in a beautiful and fascinating way. If you've never seen the late Satoshi Kon's masterpiece Paprika here's a trailer! Besides being just generally gorgeous, Paprika is a really cool exploration of what would happen if dream altering technology were to fall into the wrong hands.
If you enjoyed this episode or want to share any feedback with us please consider reaching to us on on social media! • Side Characters, Random Villagers, and NPCs - The Tooth Fairy Paradox
Welcome back listeners to another episode of World Forge! This week we're talking about all the random so-and-so's that populate our worlds; we're looking at the shopkeeps, the quest-givers, and the side characters that help propel us towards our next adventure!
We're doing lightning round rules again this week, so after we talk about some of our inspirations, we each create 3 interesting characters for you to keep in your back pocket.
We also understand that in these trying times it may be nice to branch out and try something new, or indulge in some other hobbies or interests, so we're coming at you with a rec room chock full of non-DnD related podcasts for you to while away the hours on. We would love it if you checked out some of our favorites, specifically:
    The Weekly Planet
    This American Life
    Monsters and Multiclass
    3 Spooked Girls

  • Towns, Villages, and Communities - The Legend of Saddle Point Creek
You've heard tales of the great, scaly, fire-breathing beasts of the Eastern plains, though you've never seen them with your own eyes. It's said that the men and women who command them are like the gods reborn, unmatched in size or strength...
How shocking it was to find that they were more like great hulking cows than dragons, and their riders were made of flesh and blood just like you or I...
Hello listeners, and welcome back to another episode of World Forge! We've had an interesting week testing out new ways to connect with our gaming party, and just trying to stay busy and sane in the midst of the lockdown. We hope you all are doing alright, and that our show is providing you with some much needed respite from the seemingly inescapable doom and gloom of the "real world".
This week we're talking about building towns, villages, and communities, and take a swing at building a small ranching community out in the plains. If you're interested in what it's like to partake in dinosaur husbandry, we think we offer some valuable insight this week into what exactly that may be like for your average peasant.
We also wanted to share some resources we've found useful during this time of isolation, we played our first remote DnD game and found both Discord and Roll20 to be awesome ways to stay in touch with your adventuring parties and keep your games going strong. They're easy enough to find on your own, but if you have questions about how to run games using either of these platforms please feel free to reach out to us and we'll gladly lend you any and all insight we can!
We also want to recommend friend of the show Daily Dungeon Delves on twitter who posted a handy guide on how to use both of these resources to run online DnD games. Besides that they post adorable DnD comics that we are just huge fans of.
Further, we really want to thank you all for sticking with us through these troubling times, your support and listenership really means the world to us. It really means the world to us to hear your feedback and see your support on twitter and via email, so please keep it coming it motivates us more than you can ever know!
So if you enjoyed this episode or what to share any feedback with us please consider reaching out to us to do so! • Carnivals, Festivals, and Theme Parks - Spared No Expense
Hello listeners, we hope that this week you are all safe and healthy and (mostly) still sane. We understand tensions are high during the quarantine and we hope that this episode can give you a much needed reprieve from the stresses of the real world. That's why we're talking about an extra fun topic this week: carnivals, festivals, and theme parks! With all of us trapped inside we thought it would be fun to imagine what it's like to be back out in the real world, surrounded by people and having fun!
We talk about some of our favorite fictional parties and amusements: Jurassic Park, West World (and ones that wouldn't be a terrible experience as well we promise!) and create some interesting locations for you to visit in your games and stories!
Our rec room this week is just to go and read Jurassic Park and The Lost World by Michael Crichton! (Feel free to ignore his books about climate change denial though, yikes)

  • Monarchs - Me, Myself, and Czarina
Welcome back dear listeners to another episode of World Forge! This week we're donning our bejeweled crowns and stepping into the velvet slippers of royalty! Yes this week we're taking a stab at creating our own royal rulers! Whether backed by divine right, magical lineage, or the love (or fear) of the people, establishing a powerful king, queen, emperor, or dictator can be a great way to kick off any number of epic adventures or stories!
Our exploits this time around include developing a naive czarina haunted by the spirits of her ancestors, a boy who can't control his own imagination, and... Saddam Hussein? Yes we cover it all this week! We also take some inspiration from a few really amazing resources out there, the hilarious Disney spoof musical Twisted (available in full on youtube!), and the guardian of all Dark Souls lore Vaati Vidya! We definitely recommend you check these both out for a fun (or harrowing?) source of inspiration!
