If your evergreen hedge has suffered a bit this summer and you're thinking about an alternative, maybe a hedge made of perennials is the solution. Nils Honetschläger of the Grüental site of the ZHAW showed me round recently, and explained the inspiration and key plants in a fabulous perennial hedge.
Plants mentioned include:
Eupatorium purpureum (2.2m tall)
Miscanthus spp (various heights, depending on the variety)
Calamagrostis acutiflora "Karl Förster" (1.8m)
Aster ageratoides "Azaran" (1m)
