In recent time we have been able to bring you some positive stories from Africa about advances in LGBTI rights. You might even think there is a tide of change swelling in Africa.  In this show, we take you to a country where same-sex relations are still illegal but the love story between two women might give hope for change.  This is Kenya.

* What is the role of gossip in Kenyan society?

* What was the real reason behind the initial banning of a film showing lesbian love?

For an inspiring insight into the life of lesbians in Kenya, we were joined by Wanuri Kahiu, Director of the hit film Rafiki. It was banned in its home country but is showing at this year’s Melbourne Queer Film Festival.

It’s quite rare that we are able to bring you good news stories about LGBTI rights from Africa – but now we can! In the west of central Africa is a country, after centuries of Portuguese colonisation, Angola has set about not just removing colonial sodomy laws but bringing new laws to protect the LGBTI community.

* What was the surprise addition to the law that decriminalised homosexuality in Angola?

* How is international influence helping to drive these changes?

* What does it take to be an out and proud activist speaking up for the LGBTI community in Africa?

For our first time visiting Angola, to give us an insight into LGBT life in Angola we were joined by Imanni Da Silva – a Trans activist in Angola.

He was driven from his home country in Africa by homophobia – which nearly took his life.  He created a new life in the UK, met the man of his dreams and got married. He is now a professional speaker and self-described ‘Angelic Troublemaker’. This is a story from Nigeria.

At Mardi Gras time, a cavalcade of buff beauties from across the world will parade through the streets and gay nightclubs of Sydney.  Some will have spent months preparing with gym sessions, crash diets, spray tans and skimpy yet sparkly outfits.  It’s what Mardi Gras has become world famous for – isn’t it?
