Dewey Tafoya is an artist and screen printer who makes art echoing the urban landscapes, cultures, and communities of inner city Los Angeles. Malaquias Montoya is a major figure in the Chicano Art Movement, and professor emeritus of Chicano studies at the University of California Davis. His silk screen posters are notable for addressing social justice issues like immigration, the Zapatista movement, and Palestine.

Betsy Leondar-Wright, co-author of "Is It Racist? Is It Sexist?: Why Red and Blue White People Disagree, and How to Decide in the Gray Areas" investigates how people determine if things in the world around us are racist or sexist, and what influences their perception of identical situations. In a study lasting over two and a half years and interviews with 127 individuals from various locales, party affiliation, age, and social backgrounds, Leondar-Wright and her co-author were able to identify some insights into what makes people think how they do.

Community Shares Wisconsin, which brings donors and nonprofits together to address social, economic, and environmental issues, has hosted the Big Share since 2016. The theme for this year's event, “Build Our Future Together, focuses on social and environmental justice.

Badri Lankella has two decades of experience in the public and private sectors, working for the state’s Department of Natural Resources and founding two local tech companies.

He’s running this spring to represent Madison’s southwest side on the city council. The district’s current alder Nasra Wehelie isn’t running for another term. Her husband Abdirahman Siad, a senior IT manager, is the second candidate in the race.

Lankella and Siad will face off on April 1st.

Almost one month ago to the day, the Office of Management and Budget, or OMB, issued memo number M-25-13. In the memo, the OMB, which oversees federal agencies and administers the federal budget, ordered a halt to over two thousand federal programs.

The halt, said Acting Director Matthew Vaeth, was to review federal programs and identify any that advanced "Marxist equity, transgenderism, and New Deal social engineering policies".

Facing significant pushback and a stay from a federal judge, the OMB memo was rescinded just days later. But before it was, the New York Times published a list of the more than two and a half thousand programs under scrutiny.

Using that list, WORT reporter Crowenna Cremeens asked Madisonians to help enumerate these programs.

Represented in the following piece are 260 programs–a tenth of those put under scrutiny–along with the total funding they received last year. We air this piece to illuminate the scope of the federal government - and the actual programs that would have been affected by last month's memo, if it went into effect.
