Madison Returned Peace Corps Volunteers and Open Doors for Refugees organize the 44th Annual Freeze for Food 5/10K for competition, fun and refugee food security.
These two all-volunteer organizations have put together a chance for runners and walkers to come together at the Vilas Park and Arboretum area on Saturday, March 1st to support refugees.
There’s a 5K walk/run around the neighborhood and a more competitive 10K timed run through the Arboretum. Details and sign-ups are here: http://www.rpcvmadison.org/freeze-for-food and here: http://runsignup.com/Race/WI/Madison/RPCVFreezeForFood
Tricia Blanco from the Returned Peace Corps Volunteers and Jason Mack from Open Doors for Refugees were in the WORT studio to talk about the race and refugees and how we can all come together to have fun and help each other.
There’s also a collection of food for the Goodman Community Center Food Pantry and information tables for ODFR and Peace Corps.
For the moment, there are no incoming refugees but refugees already here are as puzzled as most of us are about how to proceed with their lives. Things are better in community where we can share time and resources.
