From growing up in travelling sideshows to becoming one of Australia’s most iconic outback entertainers, Fred Brophy has lived a life that’s almost too unbelievable to be true.

A fourth-generation showman, Fred’s journey has been anything but ordinary. From a troubled youth that saw him spend time behind bars, to surviving shotgun blasts, losing fingers and finding himself in more than a few life-threatening situations, Fred has somehow lived to tell the tale. But it’s his legendary travelling boxing tent that’s made him a household name across the Australian outback. For decades, Fred and his troupe have rolled into country towns, challenging everyday Aussies to step into the ring and try their luck against his fighters.

With his trademark wide-brimmed hat, red shirt and booming bass drum, Fred has become the last of a dying breed, keeping alive a uniquely Australian tradition.

In the 1960s, when the roads of Cape York were little more than rough dirt tracks, Toots Holzheimer was a pioneer behind the wheel of a truck, travelling unforgiving terrain and some of the most isolated country in Australia

Standing just five feet tall, Toots was a mother of ten who defied expectations to become one of Australia’s most legendary truck drivers. With no formal training and a fierce determination to succeed, she tackled treacherous creek crossings, endless stretches of bulldust and roads that could leave even the most experienced drivers stranded for days.

But Toots’ remarkable journey began long before she ever climbed behind the wheel. From a childhood marked by tragedy to a turbulent family life filled with heartbreak and hardship, her story is one of extraordinary resilience, courage and an unwavering refusal to back down.

It’s a yarn of adventure, adversity and one remarkable Aussie woman who proved that sometimes the most important people in history are the ones you have never heard of.

In 1860, Robert O’Hara Burke and William John Wills set off on one of the most ambitious expeditions in Australian history — to cross the continent from south to north through country largely unknown to Europeans.

Backed by big money, loaded with supplies and joined by a colourful crew of explorers, horses and camels, the expedition left Melbourne to enormous fanfare. But as they pushed deeper into the Australian interior, impatience, brutal conditions and a string of questionable decisions began to turn the adventure into something far more dangerous.

It’s a yarn of exploration, survival, bad luck and decisions that would go down in Australian history — the incredible story of Burke and Wills.
