Would you be interested in a hand-held device that you could point at a tomato and read out the nutritional quality of that particular tomato? The Bionutrient Food Association (http://bionutrient.org/) is calling it a Bionutrient Meter, and it's quickly becoming a reality. I sat down with Dan Kittredge to discuss the "Gizmo" and other issues that the BFA is organizing around.

My guest on this segment of DITD is Greg Austic of Our-Sci.net (http://blog.our-sci.net/), who Co-leads the Bionutrient Food Association's development of the platform and sensors for the Bionutrient Meter. It's his job to get the project from vision to working unit. We get into some of the thought process that goes into bring this "Gizmo" into the shape of a low-cost, practical, handheld device that works.

Adger Cowan's predominantly black-and-white photography is collected in Personal Vision: Photographs, his monograph of original images taken over the past forty years- released this year.

Adger Cowans was awarded the Lorenzo il Magnifico alla Carriera in recognition of a Distinguished Career at the 2001 Florence Biennale of Contemporary Art. He is the recipient of a John Hay Whitney Fellowship and the Martin Luther King, Jr., Caesar Chavez, Rosa Parks Visiting Scholars Award, Wayne State University.

At his first one man show at the Heliography Gallery in New York, Jacob Deschin of the New York Times described Cowans’ work as “Boldly inventive and experimental...and the artist is a craftsman to his fingertips.”

Major exhibitions have included: “Committed to the Image” at the Brooklyn Museum of Art, “A History of African American Photographers”

To be qualified as “sustainable,” food served in the Yale Dining Halls must meet at least one of four criteria: local, eco-sensitive, humane, fair.

Employee engagement continues to be a serious problem for most organizations. Most people are not fully engaged. This is the first in a series to talk about how to engage more of us in our workplaces.
