Dr Carl Barratt, Proffessor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of New Haven, received his PhD in the area of High Energy Particle Theory from Cambridge University, and spent his childhood a few miles from Newton’s birthplace. Dr Barratt discusses the life & works of Sir Isaac Newton, one of the most influential scientists of our time.

What has midwinter, the solstice, the New Year, Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanzaa done to our homes lo these 400 years in New England?

We stress because we are judged, judge others, confront greed in ourselves and in those we love, those we work for, those we are related to: we fall short, we are elated, we are disappointed, we fear, we fail: ITS THE HOLIDAYS. Joining us in studio is Richard Mammana who knows a great deal about the last few hundred years of cultural traditions in many unique and personal ways. Richard currently serves as ecumenical communications associate for the Episcopal Church, he graduated from the Yale Divinity School in 2012, founded Project Canterbury, his writing has been published widely and is the father of 2 young girls. He is the cousin of Clement Clarke Moore, author of ‘Twas the Night before Christmas.

We started out survivalists: With harvest in, Colonists hunkered down and hoped there would be enough: To tell us these stark realities we are joined on the phone by Henry Griggs who is the Municipal Historian for the Town of Madison and a Trustee of the Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation, Henry is a direct descendant of Thomas Griggs, an early (c.1635) settler of Roxbury Massachusetts and a lapsed Congregationalist.

To wrap up our sweep of year-end stress and worship is Domestic Goddess Eva Geertz , a writer and bookseller who lives in her hometown of New Haven, CT, where she’s earned a local reputation for being contrary. PHIL KUCHMA INTERVIEWED ON WPKN

Also following up on the Cultural Allaince of Fairfield County's Creative Spaces for a Creative Economy conference, Richard Epstein interviews Phil Kuchma on his radio program Sometimes Classical, which has aired on WPKN 89.5 since 1977. Phil Kuchma, owner of The Kuchma Corporation, has developed Bijou Square, among many other projects in Bridgeport, co-sponsored the CAFC's Creative Spaces conference, chaired the From Spaces to Places panel, and was a speaker on the Sharing Spaces, Sharing Services panel. Also joining the discussion via phone is arts patron and developer Anita Durst.

In July of 2016, Richard Klein and Peter Liversidge were guests on my show: Richard, the Exhibitions Director at the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, and Peter, a multifaceted “Projects” artist who is based in the UK. At that time, we talked about having Peter come back and guest-host a show, which he did on December 6, 2016. Peter also invited a friend of his to come in as a guest, musician and composer Christopher Tignor (possibly the only musician to have sponsorship from a tuning fork company!). Richard Klein came back as well, and we spent three hours talking about art, creativity, and politics. We shared some of Christopher’s music, and Peter spun a couple of music sets of his own creation, including a set created by his eight and ten-year-old sons.
