Akbar fled Burundi with his family during the war there and went through the Congo and ended up in a Tanzanian refugee where he spent more than 15 years. He's been a part of a special writing project run by Fairfield U. professor Bryan Ripley Crandall (Center for the Coonnecticut Writing Project). We also hear about the artist Rick Shaefer's response to the refugee crisis, Refugee Trilogy, now on view at the Fairfield University Art Museum, Walsh Gallery.
