SF author and writing advice podcaster Mur Lafferty is here, talking about her space opera murder mystery "Six Wakes", of Shambling Guides and Netflix, and the print version of "I Should Be Writing".

This is a throwback interview, done about a year ago when "Six Wakes" first came out, but it's appropriate to publish now since the novel has just been nominated for a Hugo Award! Mur's also nominated for her work on for Escape Pod (Best Semipro Zine), and Ditch Diggers (Best Fancast), and "Six Wakes" has also been nominated for the Nebula and PKD Awards... congratulations, Mur!

March 29, 2018 Writers, After Dark #4: Daniel H. Wilson
Daniel H. Wilson studied AI and robotics, but turned towards storytelling instead. His love of science fiction brought him to explore his loves and concerns about robotics and the future in "Guardian Angels and Other Monsters", his new short story collection from Vintage Books.

Daniel also talks about how the robots are really the good guys in "Robopocalypse", and about the stories by Asimov and Clarke that impacted and haunted him, especially "The Long Walk" by Stephen King, publishing short fiction in professional scientific journals, and on how much waiting in involved for some of his stories to make it to film and television.

She talks about building the on-world history of Indranan culture extrapolated from the history, culture, and fashion of India; and about bringing the ideas for the story to life and writing those books in an unusually fast time frame, and how some of the characters evolved during the books to take on larger roles than expected, and handling LGBTQ characters with emotional import and respect.
