Thriller author Louisa Luna stops by to talk about "Two Girls Down", the first in her new Alice Vega series where we are introduced to Southern California PI Alice Vega and her enigmatic partner on this case, local Pennsylvania investigator Max Caplan.

The whiplash pace of the investigation combined with the slower introspective sections where each detective processes how the kidnapping is affecting them emotionally and how they find their way through the investigation makes for an interesting storytelling style, and Louisa talks about how she tangles then untangles the plot she wants.

Science fiction author Alex R. White stops by to talk about his new space opera trilogy, The Salvagers. The first book, "A Big Ship at the Edge of the Universe", is a rowdy, raucous adventure with numerous twists, and the second book, "A Bad Deal for the Whole Galaxy", jumps back into the action without missing a beat. The third book, "The Worst of All Possible Worlds", is set to be released in Summer 2019.

Alex talks about the inspirations for his settings and characters, from racing to noir mysteries and something that was very different from "Game of Thrones", and what went into composing a soundtrack for "A Big Ship at the Edge of the Universe".

Comics writer and illustrator Jeff Weigel talks about his new YA space adventure graphic novel from Lion Forge Comics, "Quantum Mechanics", as well as his story process, his art process and more.

Jeff breaks down the origins of the story and the two protagonists, and how they keep on working on improving their craft while also figuring ways to get out of their predicament: having been kidnapped by space pirates. His focus on making his lead girls be mechanically inclined and focused on technology and their friendship was an important element of the story.

Another important part of the graphic novel is the back section on how he goes about storytelling and drawing, and teaching and giving advice to kids who may be interested in learning how to draw comics was the inspiration for his Robots and Quicksand website.

Jeff is also the current illustrator for the long-running King Features syndicated newspaper comic strip "The Phantom", the oldest costumed hero in American comics, and you can check those out online.

Fantasy author (and literary agent) Rena Rossner talks about her debut novel, Sisters of the Winter Wood, where the inspiration for it came from, and her desire to explore the Jewish folklore that's integral to her heritage.

Rena talks how her research through the oral histories and the history of a town's act of resistance in 1903, and other stories around Russian, Ukrainian and Moldavian folklore, combined with "Goblin Market", a poem by Christina Rosetti. In fact, half the novel is written in a sort of poetic verse, from the point of view of one of the sisters.
