Writers, After Dark

Daniel H. Wilson studied AI and robotics, but turned towards storytelling instead. His love of science fiction brought him to explore his loves and concerns about robotics and the future in "Guardian Angels and Other Monsters", his new short story collection from Vintage Books.

Daniel also talks about how the robots are really the good guys in "Robopocalypse", and about the stories by Asimov and Clarke that impacted and haunted him, especially "The Long Walk" by Stephen King, publishing short fiction in professional scientific journals, and on how much waiting in involved for some of his stories to make it to film and television.

K. B. Wagers is here, and talking about "The Indranan War" trilogy (read the Story Binge Review of "Behind the Throne", "After the Crown" and "Beyond the Empire").

She talks about building the on-world history of Indranan culture extrapolated from the history, culture, and fashion of India; and about bringing the ideas for the story to life and writing those books in an unusually fast time frame, and how some of the characters evolved during the books to take on larger roles than expected, and handling LGBTQ characters with emotional import and respect. And yes, there's another trilogy on the way...

Fantasy author Jordanna Max Brodsky talks about the concluding book in her trilogy, "Olympus Bound", the history of ancient Greece and ancient Rome, the science and technology they had that we have since lost, and more.

Blending ancient gods still walking the Earth, secret spaces in New York City, astronomy, esoteric studies and mystery cults, and mathematics into a trilogy that doesn't shortchange character development is an Olympian feat, and we dive into how those all came together.

Horror author Jasper Bark talks about his approach to storytelling, plotting, and the benefits of channeling his dark imagination into writing horror rather than exploring new and creative ways to use axes to solve interpersonal disputes.

Jasper dives into various writing & storytelling techniques, and also talks about his cosmic horror novella "Quiet Places", how that story fits into his larger Heresy Cycle series, his graphic novel "Parassassin", and much more. And no, we're not telling you where the bodies were hidden.

Welcome to another adventure in the world of stories and storytelling, "Writers, After Dark".

This podcast will be a journey exploring the stories we enjoy reading, watching, listening to, and the people who create those stories... the people who write our books, comics, movies, television shows, and what drives them to create these stories that we truly cannot live without.

Good stories start with the writers, and we talk to them: the novelists, the comics writers, the screenwriters, the playwrights, where ever there's a story, someone's either making it up or writing it down.
