He earned a bye in the first round, pinned is opponent in :31 in the second round, and won the championship with an 8-0 major decision in the finals.Ryan is also a member of the Niles Football team and Student Council, and intends to try out for the golf team in the spring. February 15, 2020Jackson Calvert – Van Buren/Cass Student Athlete of the WeekJackson Calvert of South Haven High School Wrestling is our WSJM Sports Van Buren/Cass Student Athlete of the Week for the week of February 2, 2020.At the Wolverine Conference Championships, Jackson won the individual 189 lbs. title. He received a bye in the opening round, recorded a pin in the second round, and won the championship match with a 9-4 decision. The 9-4 decision in the final match was a win over the defending conference champion. With his wins, Jackson improved to 35-5 on the season.Jackson is also a member of the South Haven Football and Baseball teams. February 09, 2020Dashiande Harris-Moore – Berrien County Student Athlete of the WeekDashiande Harris-Moore of Benton Harbor High School Wrestling is the WSJM Sports Berrien County Student Athlete of the Week for the week of January 26, 2020.Dashiande started the week by going 2-0 at the Berrien Springs Quad. He then ended the week by winning the 160 lbs. Championship at the Greater Berrien County Invitational. He went 3-0 at the county invitational and was honored with the Nathan Broehm Outstanding Wrestler Award. With his performance, he improved to 32-2 on the season.As a sophomore, Dashiande serves as team captain. In the classroom, he carries a 3.6 grade point average and has hopes of possibly studying engineering or architecture in college.Dashiande is the son of Ciara Reese of Benton Harbor.Other finalists for the week were Jamison Zimmerman and Ryan Franco of Niles Wrestling, and Samantha Dietz of Watervliet Basketball. ...more6minPlay

Later in the week, he won the 171 lbs. Championship at the Greater Berrien County Invitational. Earlier in the season, Jared had picked up his 150th career win and is the team leader in near falls and tech falls.Jared is also a member of the football and baseball teams, National Honor Society, and Student Council.
