Bethany Duval of Brandywine High School Volleyball is the WSJM Sports Berrien County Student Athlete of the Week for the week of November 10, 2019. In the Bobcats’ Regional Semifinal win over Gobles, Bethany turned in 11 kills, four digs, two blocks, and three aces. She followed that up with 11 more kills, seven digs, and one ace in their Regional Championship match against Schoolcraft.

Bethany is also an Academic All-State member of the Basketball team and is a member of the Key Club. In the classroom, she carries a 3.5 grade point average.

Bethany is the daughter of Jason and Marilyn Duval of Niles.

Another finalist for the week was Jackson Blough of LSJ Hockey.

The 200 Medley Relay Team from South Haven High School Swimming is our WSJM Sports Van Buren/Cass Student Athlete of the Week for the week of November 10, 2019.

Team members are Sierra Garber, Elise Postma, Ellie Frost, and Kaia Hayes. At the second shave meet at Holland, the team qualified for the state finals, in their last opportunity to do so, with a time of 1:58.71.

Outside of swimming, Sierra is a member of the National Honor Society and Peer-To-Peer Group, and carries a 3.56 grade point average. Elise is a member of the National Honor Society, Band, and Robotics, and carries a 4.23 grade point average. Ellie is a member of the National Honor Society, Band, and Be Nice Program, and carries a 4.35 grade point average. Kaia is a member of the National Honor Society and carries a 3.67 grade point average.

The Southwestern Michigan 8-Man Football Conference has announced the addition of three new members for the 2020 season.  New additions to the conference are Bangor High School, Eau Claire High School, and Marcellus High School.

The three new members join original members Bridgman, Lake Michigan Catholic, Lawrence, Martin, Michigan Lutheran, New Buffalo, and Tri-Unity Christian.

Ella O’Sullivan of South Haven High School Volleyball is our WSJM Sports Van Buren/Cass Student Athlete of the Week for the week of November 3, 2019.

For the week, Ella finished with two double-doubles. In the Rams’ District Semifinal win over Allegan, she finished with 14 kills and 17 digs. In their District Championship match against Paw Paw, she turned in 13 kills and 12 digs.

Ella is also a member of the South Haven Tennis team and plays club volleyball. In the classroom, she carries a 3.0 grade point average.

Ella is the daughter of Amy O’Sullivan Wheeler and Matt O’Sullivan of South Haven.

Another finalist for the week was Mallory Dorow of South Haven Volleyball.
