Phil McDonald recaps Monday's high school sports action, previews Tuesday's schedule, and highlights this week's football rankings...

 

Kaylee Thompson of Niles High School Cross Country is the WSJM Sports Berrien County Student Athlete of the Week for the week of September 22, 2019. Kaylee won the individual Berrien County championship for the second year in a row. She won the meet with a time of 20:02.

Kaylee is also a member of the Niles Track team and National Honor Society. In the classroom, she carries a 4.07 grade point average.

Kaylee is the daughter of Kenny and Mindy Smith of Niles.

Other finalists for the week were Johnny Rager of Buchanan Football and Ashton Sheline of Berrien Springs Cross Country.

Elinor Frost of South Haven High School Swimming is our WSJM Sports Van Buren/Cass Student Athlete of the Week for the week of September 22, 2019.

In the Rams’ meet against Plainwell, Elinor won the 50 Meter Freestyle with a state qualifying time of :25.06 and won the 100 Meter Freestyle with a state qualifying time of :55.42. She also swam a leg for the winning 200 Medley Relay team and the third place 200 Freestyle Relay team.

Elinor is also a member of the South Haven Track team, National Honor Society, Band, Tri M Music Honor Society, and Quiz Bowl team, and is a Science Olympiad.

Elinor is the daughter of John and Carey Frost of South Haven.
