  • Brain Injury Radio - Presentation counts - Kevin Phillips
PRESENTATION COUNTS! As a TBI Thriver, I must put forth effort to be calm, confident, assured and in control at all times and most of the time, I am.  However, there have been and always will be times when I must recover from "awkward" situations. On those occasions I  must have the skill to find the positive and the will to present it convincingly to people who may yet understand TBI's.  In the TBI world, we are blessed with the challenges of presenting ourselves as "normal" but then again, what is "normal"?  How do you present yourself as a TBI Thriver?  What do you do when you have your moments around others?  Join Kevin in a discussion to learn and share how important "Presentation Counts"! • Out of Sight, Out of Mind with Kevin Phillips
"Out of Sight, Out of Mind" We have all heard the phrase, "out of sight, out of mind," which is defined as the idea that something is easily forgotten or dismissed as unimportant if it is not in our direct view. However, in the world of brain injury, forgetfulness is a common, if not daily or hourly, challenge for many. Join Kevin in a discussion of how we as Brain Injury Thrivers, learn to cope and deal with society's misconceptions of our forgetfulness. While we may be absent-minded, we have also learned to use different strategies to help us remember. What techniques have you utilized to help improve your lives? Call in to share & learn... because LIFE is all about the 'give & take'.

  • What's Your Frequency? - Hosted by Kevin Phillips
Our brains operate very much like a radio. Research studies show that the brain uses different frequencies of waves to send different kinds of information, just like radio stations play songs and news on different frequencies. When we turn the knob to find a favorite station, we filter through different frequencies to get to that station; however, whenever the knob jams, then we're stuck with listening to static noise and mixed messages, which makes it difficult to understand. We then get distracted or sidetracked, fumbling with the dial to get a clear signal, and when we finally do get to the right station, we are already too tired and/or frustrated to listen and enjoy. Sound familiar? Our brain injury is like that jammed dial...the trick is learning how to adjust that "knob" so that we can switch back and forth between those frequencies (strategies) efficiently and enjoy our favorite stations. Tune in and join Kevin as he will share how he zapped between many "stations" before finding the one that helped him embrace life with a brain injury. Please call in and share your "frequency."
