Virginia's 2021 Election Day has come and gone. And Republican Glenn Youngkin will be the next governor of Virginia. Not only that, but it looks like Democrats have lost their majority in the Virginia House of Delegates. So what happened?

To answer that question, our crew from Bold Dominion joined up with the crew from the podcast Transition Virginia for a special crossover episode.

Political analyst Susan MacManus calls Florida the most complex and difficult swing state to win. And many assumptions about how voters vote, whether based on age or ethnicity, go to die in the Sunshine State. Florida is getting younger and more diverse, and it’s pushing the needle on democracy — in both directions. Hear how activist Desmond Meade helped enfranchise more than a million new voters, even as his state’s Republican-controlled legislature has limited how and when Floridians cast their ballots.

A decade after the Civil War, a new party formed in Virginia: the Readjuster Party. With both black and white members, the Readjusters worked to reduce state debt, support public education for African-Americans, and end the poll tax.

Some white Virginians felt threatened... and they used a violent incident to subvert the Readjusters' power.

A lot of us local policy nerds have been eagerly awaiting the new Charlottesville Comprehensive Plan. This process of laying out a vision for the city started nearly five years ago. On Tuesday October 19th, the planning commission made a major step by recommending the plan to City Council for approval. So we are very excited to get the inside scoop today with Charlottesville Planning Commissioner, Lyle Solla-Yates. Something weird is going on in Mesa County, Colo. Images, passwords and copies of raw data from election equipment mysteriously turned up online over the summer. Then Mesa’s elections clerk vanished, only to resurface weeks later, claiming she had uncovered fraud — in a county that Trump won handily. This week, investigative reporter Emma Brown of the Washington Post breaks down this bizarre case from Colorado. It fits a national playbook designed to undermine the 2020 election and faith in voting systems.

This week in 1913... A sea of humanity blocked the streets around Richmond’s First Baptist Church. They hoped to catch a glimpse of Daniel Webster Davis’ funeral cortege. Davis was a giant in Richmond’s African American community -- a lifelong educator, organization builder, poet, and pastor.
