Last year, Virginians approved a redistricting commission that was supposed to bring an end to gerrymandering. But this month the commission broke down while trying to decide on statehouse districts, and the process appears headed to the Virginia Supreme Court. Meanwhile, citizens in the Old Dominion are heading to the polls next month to elect their first governor of the post-Trump era. We talk state politics with former Del. David Toscano and Brian Cannon, who championed the redistricting reform effort.

It has been a hectic week in the world of local governance. On Tuesday night, City Council accepted the resignation of the City Manager, Chip Boyles. Boyles has only been serving as city manager for ten months. So that really makes today’s topic even more important. In this episode we’re continuing our series on the local elections with interviews with two city council candidates. As a note, all of these interviews were conducted before Chip Boyles resigned last week. Juandiego Wade and Brian Pinkston won the Democratic primary for the two open at-large city council seats back in June. But the race isn’t over yet and next week we’ll be sharing an interview with independent city council candidate, Yas Washington.

LeeBangah recently released his single, Hot Boy, and has a forthcoming new album titled No Favors. They discussed his new album, upcoming shows, work ethic, and more.

LeeBangah is known for his passionate performances and his positive engagement in local community. In 2017 he rolled out The Vinegar Hill Story, a song and video focusing on the once thriving Black community that was demolished in Charlottesville in the name of urban renewal. A dedicated father; LeeBangah's love of family and community is expressed in songs such as Gave it My All and Ugly Dance.

This week in 1921... Swarms of Confederate veterans made their way into Charlottesville. It was the annual Virginia veterans’ reunion replete with picnics and receptions. And this year had an extra draw -- the unveiling of a new monument to General Stonewall Jackson in the newly minted, whites-only Jackson Park.
