  • Band of Georges: Same Old Road Again
Same Old Road Again by George.
From Volume VII Side A of the Band of Georges.
    Music by G. Davies.
    Composed 17th May 1986.
    Recorded May 1987.
    Mixed August 1987.

    Fun Facts:
Same Old Road Again was a song George wrote to express his frustration at some of the unreliable musicians he had worked with.
Most of the guitar is played using fingers, not a pick.
It's not until the solo at the end of the song that he swaps to a plectrum.
This song was the second song Rough Terrain ever played live.
They ran into it from a cover of Steppenwolf's Born to Be Wild.
Rough Terrain performed this song many, many times.
It was also a part of the set of the first incarnation of The Ug Brothers.
This was the first demo to feature the Boss 220A drum machine, instead of the DR55 Dr Rhythm.
It required a much greater time investment in terms of programming.
He also had to add a few judicious extra beats to make some of the flams and fills.
These had to be added live to the drum machine track as it was being recorded.

This song is about his determination to continue.
It also succinctly summarises the nature of some of the unreliable characters he had encountered along the way.
Fool in the Sea of Sharks was attempted by The Masters of Drone, but that band didn't last very long either.
Shortly afterwards, the Tascam portastudio arrived and George struck out on his own for a while.

He felt that exeter was stifling him and that London offered a lot more opportunities for a musician.
To the World is a song about going to the world, and he hoped to take his girlfriend with him.
Things worked out differently in the end.
