Fun Facts:
Write to You consists of classic riffs and esoteric chords on the guitar.
George found it difficult to deal with the loss of various friends who had moved away.
He decided to write to them, including his muse, to whom he sent a special package with tape as well as a letter.
George wanted the package to arrive on May 23rd, as he had discovered the 'rule of fives', and that might be a cosmic date for such a thing to plop through a letterbox.
This song was written a day or two before the mail-out.
It was not clear if the package ever reached its recipient, but it was not returned, so perhaps it did.

Fun Facts:
Песня За in Russian is pronounced Piestnia Za in English.
This was the longest composition George created.
It is in four separate parts and these have been separated in an EP version.
Each part is shorter than its predecessor.
The first chord is a magical chord that suddenly came to George's fingers as he was composing the music for Indian Summer.
The EDP Wasp makes an approximation of the synth sound desired, but is not very close.
George finds the lyrics and vocal performance unlistenable due to being too close to his soul.
He still likes Part 1 and Part 4 though.

Victims was written after George's girlfriend was not on the train she was supposed to be on.
Whilst he continued to wait for her at another friend's bedsit, he was very much tempted to snuggle with another friend who was waiting there with him, but he did not.
This song was never performed by any band.

So Begins the Crying is another song that started out as just a guitar piece.
George recorded a few instrumental tracks to a cassette and gave it to Ken so he could come up with some lyrics.
This song is one of the ones he came up with.
So Begins the Crying was also a regular in the live set of Rough Terrain.

Fun Facts:
The Pig, the Peg and the Egg was written for fun by George, Graham and Jack the Frag.
It was composed in the evening at Flat D, 1 Grosvenor Place, also known as Wud HQ.
It is very much based upon a song called Barabadabada by Ivor Cutler.
During its creation, George's disgruntled girlfriend stamped into the room and yelled her displeasure at the trio of composers.
Undaunted, they carried on to the end.
There is nothing sensible or serious about this song, neither expressed nor implied.

This version of Planets is very much the full-length version.
The first 1:40 consists of interplanetary space sounds.
One could argue that these are rather unnecessary sound effects to begin the song.
Planets was composed in the small hours of the early morning at Flat D, 1 Grosvenor Place, also known as Wud HQ.
The guitar is played on the Ice Maiden through the Electric Mistress on the 'red' setting.
During the long sustained Em7 chord, the guitar sings a note that isn't actually there.
This was a remarkable moment.
It was possibly due to harmonic resonance with the springs for the tremolo hidden inside the body that hold the bridge in place.
Planets was performed by Wud.

This was a therapy song that George wrote when he was feeling rather disgruntled with his girlfriend.
The lead guitar is clean with a touch of reverb from the HH PA amp and Boss OC2 octaver.
The arpeggio rhythm guitar is beautifully flanged by the EHX Electric Mistress.

This is the full-length version of Dream, with its 10:30 guitar solo.
It was composed on a canal boat on the Norfolk Broads shortly after the end of 'A' levels.
To begin with it was only about four minutes long.
During various jams that happened to be recorded, it grew and grew.
Much of the guitar solo was fairly definitve in the end.
Ken helped a lot with the arrangement, including the changes of tempo and feel.
Dream was performed by The Subterraineans as well as by Wud.

Change is a progressive rock song that was originally composed on the guitar.
There are 42 different chords on the guitar, apparently.
Change was performed by Wud and was a crowd favourite.
Ken would play a two-note solo at the beginning, then George took over the lead duty.
There are many musical changes, as well as the lyrics describing the feeling of growing from child to adult.
"A dram of cider" is an odd lyric that refers to the early Wud posse's enjoyment of drinking whisky as well as cider.
The piano is a Challen 988 upright which lived in George's family's home and was bought new directly from the factory in about 1970.
