This arrangement by The Ug Brothers.

  • The Ug Brothers: Walking Over That Same Old Stony Ground
    Music and lyrics: G. Davies
This arrangement by The Ug Brothers.
    Graham Barbe - drums
    Marc Greatorex - bass
    George Davies - guitar, vocals
In 1983 George deceided to write a concept album based on the idea of swords and sorcery. He wrote all of the music fairly quickly, but most of the lyrics were never finished and the concept album lies gathering dust, and probably will forever more.
Walking Over That Same Old Stony Ground was a song that George wrote one day in 1985 during a rare outburst of enthusiasm for said concept album. It was a late arrival having not been previously conceived.

  • The Ug Brothers: Teel: A Mistaken Identity
    Music and lyrics: G. Davies
This arrangement by The Ug Brothers.
    Graham Barbe - drums
    Marc Greatorex - bass
    George Davies - guitar, vocals
This was a song George wrote after a bizarre and funny alcohol-related incident centred around a teenage Pok and a completely wrong girl named Kate at a disco.
'Lert' was one bogus name among many bogus names that Dave 'Destroyer of Microphones' Wareham signed on a somewhat degraded thank-you card to a largely inept music teacher following a reasonably decent school play.
This song was later performed live many times by the band Rough Terrain.

  • The Ug Brothers: Same Old Road Again
    Music and lyrics: G. Davies
This arrangement by The Ug Brothers.
    Graham Barbe - drums
    Marc Greatorex - bass
    George Davies - guitar, vocals
George wrote this on 17th May 1986 after feeling somewhat disgruntled with the demise of a previous fledgling band, The Masters of Drone. It also appears without the screechy guitar at the beginning on Rough Terrain's Howell Road Demo and Rough Terrain's Exit Stage Deaf compilation.

  • Heaven and Hell
The Subterraineans consisted of Dean Trotter (vocals, guitar, percussion), George Davies (guitar, vocals), Jerry Peirce (bass, vocals) and Graham Barbe (drums). The band was formed from the ashes of The Addled Eggs, so in that sense can be considered a phoenix. The Subterraineans formed in September 1986 and continued until around March 1987.
These songs were recorded when The Subterraineans had been rehearsing for about two months. They had not gigged at this point. Some of the songs are a bit rough and the quality of the recording is not great as the cassette has deteriorated over the years, but it is interesting to hear these songs nevertheless. It would seem that Graham was the chief presser of the ‘record’ button on this occasion.
