Energy delivery company Enbridge is planning a new oil pipeline under the Straits of Mackinac. It would replace the older petroleum pipeline known as Line 5. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel sued the company, saying there's an environmental concern. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is still reviewing the permit application, but has released a preliminary report that indicates this would be a safe project. The final decision will be made later this year. Also, the U.S. Supreme Court will review the Nessel lawsuit and potentially determine if this case is best settled in a federal or state court.
Mike Alaimo, Senior Director, Legislative & External Affairs at the Michigan Chamber of Commerce, is in support of the pipeline. He spoke to WWJ's Ryan Wrecker about the project and what to expect next.
