Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is speaking out in the wake of the attack at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, the largest reform synagogue in the U.S. Addressing reporters and taking questions at a news conference Friday, Whitmer condemned antisemitism, which she said is at a historic high.

The man who drove his truck into Temple Israel was fatally shot by security has been identified by federal officials as 41-year-old Ayman Mohamad Ghazali, a naturalized citizen born in Lebanon who lived in Dearborn Heights. No staff, teachers or children were injured during the attack. Jennifer Runyan is the FBI Special agent in charge at the Detroit field office and is leading the investigation. Former Detroit Violent Crimes Task Force Lieutenant Tom Berry tells WWJ's Tony Ortiz what law enforcement will be doing as the investigation moves forward.

The gunman was the only casualty of an active shooter situation at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield on Thursday. In the aftermath, WWJ was joined on the live line by Oakland County Exec. David Coulter who said the team at the Oakland County Emergency Operation Center has been monitoring the situation.
