Consider this the podcast equivalent of Giant Size X-Men #1! It's an episode filled with big announcements, enormous thank yous, and an epic discussion about this incredibly influential film and the franchise it kicked off! We were all a little shocked when we realized that this original X-Men movie is already fifteen years old! What's really interesting about it now is that it's sort of a middle ground between the way comic book films were made and marketed in the 80s and 90s vs the way they're treated today. There's no question that this helped shape the landscape of the modern superhero movie, but there are still a lot of elements here that are holdovers from the previous era. Topics include: our history with the comics and the 90s cartoon, other versions of the film that were kicked around before Bryan Singer got involved, some initial skepticism about the age of certain characters, the incredible opening scene and why the Magneto/Professor X relationship is so central to the success of this property, whether or not Wolverine should be a leading man, the real reason this feels a little small in scope, how unfortunate it is that Cyclops and Storm get sidelined here, some issues with the costumes, some questions about Magneto's plan, and much much more!
