Hochul Signs Bill That Will Fine Fossil Fuel Companies $75 Billion to Pay For Damage Caused to Climate

New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed a $75 billion climate change bill that will fine fossil fuel companies for the damage caused to the environment.

“With nearly every record rainfall, heatwave, and coastal storm, New Yorkers are increasingly burdened with billions of dollars in health, safety, and environmental consequences due to polluters that have historically harmed our environment,” Governor Hochul said. “Establishing the Climate Superfund is the latest example of my administration taking action to hold polluters responsible for the damage done to our environment and requiring major investments in infrastructure and other projects critical to protecting our communities and economy.”

The Marxist bill was carried by Democrat Senator Liz Krueger and Assembly Member Jeffrey Dinowitz.

“The Climate Change Superfund Act is now law, and New York has fired a shot that will be heard round the world: the companies most responsible for the climate crisis will be held accountable,” said Senator Krueger.

Cold Weather-Related Deaths Soar Despite ‘Global Warming’ — Doubled Over Past 20 Years

Despite the supposedly catastrophic threat of global warming, cold weather-related deaths across the United States are on the rise.

According to a study published in The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), the number of Americans who have died from the cold has doubled between the period of 1999 to 2022.

Dr. Rishi Wadhera, an associate professor of health policy and management at Harvard University, and his team conducted a study revealing the need for “public health interventions to improve access to warming centers and indoor heating for vulnerable populations.”

The research analyzed U.S. death certificates for over 63.5 million Americans who died between 1999 and 2022.

During that time, exposure to cold temperatures was identified as a direct or contributing factor in 0.06% of deaths.

The study found that the rate of cold-related deaths more than doubled over the 23-year period, increasing from 0.44 deaths per 100,000 people in 1999 to 0.92 deaths per 100,000 in 2022.

This amounts to an annual rise of 3.4% in cold-related mortality.

US holiday retail sales come in above forecast, Mastercard says

(Reuters) - U.S. retail sales rose 3.8% between Nov. 1 and Dec. 24, as customers turned to last minute shopping due to intense holiday season promotions, a Mastercard report showed on Thursday.

The jump in sales was higher than a 3.2% rise forecast by Mastercard in September and well above a 3.1% increase from a year earlier, with the last five days of the season accounting for 10% of all holiday spending.

U.S. authorities arrested dozens of members of the Venezuelan prison gang Tren de Aragua during recent operations in two major American cities.

Available data and recent history contradict one of the key points of the Biden administration’s long-awaited study on liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports and Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm’s attempt to spin the study into something it is not.

The Department of Energy (DOE) released the study on Tuesday, nearly a year after the Biden administration froze approvals for LNG exports to non-free trade countries in January. The paper stops short of determining that more LNG export capacity is not in the public interest, but it suggests that significant growth in exports will drive up domestic natural gas prices despite all available evidence indicating that the exact opposite is true.

“The U.S. Department of Energy’s updated study finds that a wide range of domestic consumers of natural gas – from households to farmers to heavy industry – would face higher prices from increased exports,” Granholm said in a statement addressing her agency’s report. “The study put forward today finds that unfettered exports of LNG would increase wholesale domestic natural gas prices by over 30%. Unconstrained exports of LNG would increase costs for the average American household by well over $100 more per year by 2050.”  b

50% Of Canadian Manufacturers Considering Layoffs If Trump Tariffs Enacted

Nearly half of Canadian manufacturers may freeze hiring or lay off workers if U.S. President-elect Donald Trump imposes 25 percent tariffs on all Canadian goods.

A survey of 300 manufacturers found that 48 percent are considering these moves in response to the proposed tariffs, according to data released Dec. 19 by Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters (CME).

Additionally, 46 percent are considering postponing or cancelling planned capital investments, while 49 percent say they may shift some production to the U.S. if the tariffs are implemented.

“Tariffs will endanger nearly $600 billion in exports to our largest trading partner, two-thirds of which are manufactured goods,” CME president and CEO Dennis Darby said in a press release.

“These findings show why we need an urgent and coordinated response from governments to protect manufacturing businesses, workers, and families.”
