Trump picks economist Faulkender for No. 2 position at Treasury

President-elect Trump announced economist Michael Faulkender as his pick for deputy secretary of the Treasury on Wednesday, the second-highest ranking position at the department.

If confirmed, Faulkender would serve under Scott Bessent, Trump’s nominee to be Treasury secretary.

As the retail apocalypse that started with Amazon and e-commerce continues, the latest victim is The Container Store.

The retail giant could file for bankruptcy as soon as next year, according to the New York Post, who said the retailer is blaming its recent descent on "a weak housing market and inflated prices" hurting sales.

The chain, based in Coppell, Texas, saw a pandemic-driven surge in 2020 and 2021 as homebound consumers, inspired by Marie Kondo’s Netflix show, embraced decluttering.

However, a sluggish housing market and persistent inflation have curbed moves, home renovations, and discretionary spending, shrinking demand for storage products. Or, in other words, people simply have less money for crap nowadays.

Tariffs are coming, but Congress can stop them

The Bank of Russia announced  it will suspend purchases of foreign currency on the domestic exchange from November 28 until the end of the year, to reduce market volatility.

The regulator also said it will continue to sell foreign currency to replenish the National Wealth Fund. The volume of such operations currently amounts to 8.4 billion rubles ($74 million) per day, according to the central bank’s statement.

The Bank of Russia took a similar step last year in wake of Western sanctions, suspending dollar purchases from August 10 until the end of the year to stop the sharp weakening of the ruble.

Alternative Energy Crowd Gets Desperate After ‘Wind Drought’ Refuses to Lift 

 Mark W. Nelson, founder Managing Director of Radiant Energy Group, noted “panic” among German utility executives following a “shocking 12-day wind drought.”

“At the beginning of this month, Germany’s power supply reached its limits,” Krebber wrote on LinkedIn.

Citing Nov. 6 as an example, Krebber bemoaned extreme high energy prices and “shortage of supply.” He also warned that the “same situation would not have been manageable on another day with a higher peak load.”

In other words, Europe’s over-reliance on wind power means that when wind speeds slow, energy producers sometimes cannot meet demand.

During periods when high-pressure weather systems result in reduced wind speeds, wind turbines naturally produce little-to-no energy.

Macy’s Claims One Accounting Employee Hid $154 Million in Delivery Expenses For 3 Years

Macy’s said it had to delay its 3rd quarter earnings report after one accounting employee hid $154 million in delivery expenses.

It is unclear how one employee was able to hide this ‘error’ for three years from the retailer’s auditor, KPMG.

It is important to note that KPMG has been embroiled in numerous scandals over the years including being accused of covering up fraud in the collapse of New Century, a large Southern California-based REIT that filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2007.

The unidentified accounting employee no longer works for Macy’s.

Macy’s said the so-called accounting error did not impact its cash management or payments to vendors.
