Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the radical leftist President of Brazil currently hosting the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro, will tell attendees Monday the time has come for a global taxation impost on ultra wealthy individuals.

The left-wing alternative to Elon Musk’s X platform is already running into difficulties with its promise to censor “harmful content.”

Bluesky, which has received millions of sign-ups from angry leftists boycotting Elon Musk’s X platform, has admitted that it cannot keep up with the number of moderation and censorship requests from its progressive user base.

In a post from “Bluesky Safety,” the company announced that it was receiving over 3,000 censorship demands per hour, leading to a backlog in its response times.

They explained:

Bluesky has grown by over 3M people in the last week — welcome! With every wave of growth naturally comes an increase in moderation reports. Here’s a status report on how the Trust Safety team is handling it:

In the past 24 hours, we have received more than 42,000 reports (an all-time high for one day). We’re receiving about 3,000 reports/hour. To put that into context, in all of 2023, we received 360k reports. We’re triaging this large queue so the most harmful content such as CSAM is removed quickly.

 Al Gore believes a second Donald Trump term in the White House will have little to no impact on the “momentum” of the globalist climate doom agenda and it will march on “despite” him.

 Argentine President Javier Milei is evaluating whether to withdraw his country from the Paris climate agreement as part of a broader review of all international policy, according to a senior official in his administration who spoke on the condition of anonymity because no final decision has been made.

Top Federal Reserve official defends central bank’s independence in wake of Trump win 

  A Federal Reserve official gave a lengthy defense of the central bank’s political independence Thursday, just days after former President Donald Trump, an outspoken Fed critic, won re-election.

“It has been widely recognized — and is a finding of economic research — that central bank independence is fundamental to achieving good policy and good economic outcomes,” Adriana Kugler, one of the seven members of the Fed’s governing board, said in prepared remarks for an economic conference in Montevideo, Uruguay.

Kugler added that the research in particular finds that greater independence for central banks in advanced economies is related to lower inflation.

Kugler spoke just a week after Fed Chair Jerome Powell tersely denied that Trump had the legal authority to fire him, as the president-elect has acknowledged he considered doing during his first term. Powell also said he wouldn’t resign if Trump asked.

 White House National Climate Adviser Ali Zaidi stated that “we really ran early this year to finalize” many climate regulations “before May, which, really, I think, ensures durability relative to this arcane statute, the Congressional Review Act. So, I think, because of that foresight, we have, actually, quite a durable regulatory regime going into the next few years.”

DC Swamp Draining May Spark Recessionary Pain For Region

President-elect Donald Trump plans to make Elon Musk secretary of cost-cutting to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in slashing $2 trillion from the federal budget—about a third of what the bloated federal government spent in the latest fiscal year. This once-in-a-generation initiative will cut thousands of federal workers and reduce or even eliminate the vast cancerous bureaucracy with a new small government led by capable leaders.

Trump is less than three months away from implementing his plan to 'Make America Great Again'... and thousands of federal workers across DC, Northern Virginia, and Baltimore region have been put on notice for potential job loss.

Fed Chair prepared to bring suit to keep his job if Trump tries to oust him: report

Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell is reportedly ready to go to court to save his job if President-elect Donald Trump seeks to remove him. As The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday, Trump may have considered whether to fire Powell in 2018 over a disagreement over interest rates. Powell kept raising; Trump wanted them lowered. Fed leaders are reportedly prepared for an unprecedented legal battle—the same one Fed leaders had prepared for years ago.

If Powell does have to sue for his job, he may have to pay the costs himself. Powell concurred with Trump’s assessment of runaway illegal immigration contributing to rising employment. Trump is reportedly not enthusiastic about Powell still being the Fed chair six years later and Powell knows that. When asked last week by a reporter if he would resign if Trump asked him to, Powell insisted the answer was no. He also said no president has the authority to fire him. He said it was “not permitted under the law.”

California Punishes Voters After Historic Election, Slaps on Massive New Gas Tax 

  California's Air Resources Board (CARB voted Friday night to change fuel standards. Translation: they want to add 65 cents a gallon to the already highest fuel prices in the nation. This comes as Gov. Gavin Newsom preens on the national stage and vows to defy Trump despite the fact that the president-elect just scored a massive electoral win and what can only be called a mandate for his vision.

On Saturday morning, the average gallon of gas in California costs $4.14 compared to the $3.09 national average. In Contra Costa County, the average is $4.60 per gallon.

Tariffs and retail prices: What consumers need to know

Tariffs on retail goods don’t usually directly control the final price that consumers pay.

When products are brought into the U.S., the tariff is calculated based on the declared value of the goods at the point of import, not on the retail price at which they’re sold.

This declared value omits additional costs such as labor, marketing, logistics, rent and the profit margin that retailers add. Consequently, the price on the shelf can be significantly higher than the tariffed import value.

For instance, the markup on big-ticket items like cars might be relatively modest, around 5%, whereas luxury goods can see markups up to 500%. However, most consumer products are typically marked up by over 100% over their import value.

Sourcing is never fixed:

Consumers worry that retailers will just pass on the cost of tariffs in terms of wholesale costs. The more likely answer is that companies will look for cheaper suppliers, countries for sourcing or domestic manufacturers. Sourcing is not static or fixed.

 

The U.S. is the world’s largest consumer market. A significant drop in demand due to high tariffs can push suppliers to reduce prices to remain competitive, offsetting some or all of the costs of tariffs.
