「Then God said to Jacob,

　"Arise, go up to Bethel and dwell there;

　and make an altar there to God,

　who appeared to you when you fled from

　the face of Esau your brother."」　Amen.

　Jacob's life was a mess: born on the heels of his brother Esau, deprived of Esau's firstborn rights, and deceived by his uncle Laban. God appears to Jacob and tells him to go to Bethel. Bethel was the place where Jacob's faith began. (Genesis 28:18)「Then Jacob rose early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put at his head, set it up as a pillar, and poured oil on top of it.And he called the name of that place Bethel;」

　May we ponder the rock that was dug out today....

『神はヤコブに仰せられた。

　「立って、ベテルに上り、そこに住みなさい。

　そしてそこに、あなたが兄エサウから逃れたとき、

　あなたに現れた神のために祭壇を築きなさい。」』

　ヤコブは、兄エサウのかかとを掴んで生まれ、エサウの長子の権利を奪い、叔父ラバンには騙され、散々な人生でした。そのヤコブに神様は現れ、ベテルに行くように言うのです。ベテルは、ヤコブにとっては信仰の原点のような場所だったのです。「創28:18 翌朝早く、ヤコブは自分が枕にした石を取り、それを立てて石の柱とし、柱の頭に油を注いだ。そしてその場所の名をベテルと呼んだ。」

　今日も、掘り出された岩に思いを馳せる事ができますように・・・。　

「Then Jacob said to Simeon and Levi,

　"You have troubled me by making me obnoxious

　among the inhabitants of the land,

　among the Canaanites and the Perizzites;

　and since I am few in number,

　they will gather themselves

　together against me and kill me.

　I shall be destroyed, my household and I."」　Amen.

The story goes like this. Jacob had 12 sons and a daughter named Dinah. One day, Dinah went to a certain land. Shechem, the son of a powerful man, humiliated her. When her brother Simeon and Levi heard about this, they took revenge with a trick. Jacob's words at that time are today's passage. But I think that Jacob is responsible for this. He bought land near the city, was not careful in his dealings with the world, did not discipline his children piously, etc. As a parent, I want to be mindful of these things. As a parent, this is something I want to be mindful of.

『それで、ヤコブはシメオンとレビに言った。

　「あなたがたは私に困ったことをして、

　私をこの地の住民カナン人とペリジ人に

　憎まれるようにしてしまった。

　私は数では劣っている。

　彼らが一緒に集まって私を攻め、私を打つなら、

　私も家の者も根絶やしにされてしまうだろう。」』

　事の顛末はこうでした。ヤコブには、12人の息子とひとりのディナという娘がいました。ある時、ディナがある土地に出かけました。その時に、その土地の有力者の息子シェケムが彼女を辱めるのです。それを聞いた兄シメオンとレビは、策略を持って、復讐を果たすのです。その時のヤコブの言葉が今日の箇所なのです。が、元はと言えばヤコブの責任なんだと思います。町の近くに土地を買ったこと、この世との交際に気をつけなかったこと、子どもたちを敬虔にしつけなかったこと等々。親としては、心したい事でもあります。

　今日も、主の前に鎮まることができますように・・・。　

『3:1 最後に、私の兄弟たち、主にあって喜びなさい。私は、また同じことをいくつか書きますが、これは私にとって面倒なことではなく、あなたがたの安全のためにもなります。』

お祈りします。

愛する天のお父様、み名を崇め感謝します。神様との関係を回復し、喜びの生活、感謝の生活、執り成しの生活ができますようにお導き願います。今、世界は、混沌としてきています。世界の為に、日本のために、世界のリーダーたちの為に、日本のリーダーたちの為に執り成しの祈りができますようにお助け願います。今日の礼拝を感謝し、すべてを感謝し、主イエス・キリストのお名前によって

お祈り致します。　アーメン。

「Please let my lord go on ahead before his servant.

　 I will lead on slowly at a pace

　which the livestock that go before me,

　and the children, are able to endure,

　until I come to my lord in Seir.」　Amen.

Jacob had wrestled with God the night before and even received the name “Israel” but his attitude toward his brother Esau was despicable. In the end, he did not go to Seir with his brother. In our lives, I am sure we have all had the experience of saying, “Yesterday, I was so blessed in my fellowship with God, but today, I am feeling down.” There is no need to be discouraged. The Lord's blessings are hidden in the midst of trials.

　May you walk the Lord's path today without fear...

『あなた様は、しもべより先にお進みください。

　私は、前を行く家畜や子どもたちの歩みに合わせて、

　ゆっくり旅を続け、あなた様のもと、

　セイルへ参ります。』

　前の晩に、神と格闘し、「神の王子」という名前までいただいたヤコブでしたが、兄エサウに接する態度は卑屈そのものでした。そして、結局、兄のもと、セイルへは行かなかったのです。私たちの人生の中でも、「昨日は、あんなに神との交わりで恵まれたのに、今日は何だか落ち込んでいる」という経験をした事があると思います。うろたえる必要はないのです。試練の中にこそ主の祝福が潜んでいるのです。

　今日も、主の道を怯むことなく歩めますように・・・。　

「Now when He saw that He did not prevail against him,

　He touched the socket of his hip;

　and the socket of Jacob's hip was out of joint as

　He wrestled with him.」　Amen.

There was a feud between Jacob and his brother Esau. When Jacob was about to return home, Esau was about to come for him with 400 men. Jacob was afraid, and his mind was in turmoil, trying to decide whether to flee, to curry favor, or to pray. He was running out of ideas and had no choice but to pray. In his weakness, God appeared to him.

　May we look up to the Lord today....

『その人はヤコブに勝てないのを見てとって、

　彼のももの関節を打った。

　ヤコブのももの関節は、

　その人と格闘しているうちに外れた。』

　ヤコブと兄エサウの間には確執がありました。ヤコブが故郷に帰ろうとした時に、エサウが４００人を引き連れて迎えに来ようとしていました。ヤコブは恐れて、逃げようか、ご機嫌を取ろうか、祈ろうかと、その気持ちは千々に乱れたのです。万策尽きて、祈らざるを得なくなったのです。その弱さの中に神様は現れたのです。

　今日も、主を見上げることができますように・・・。　

「But God had come to Laban the Syrian in a dream by night,

　and said to him,

　"Be careful that you speak to Jacob neither good nor bad."」　Amen.

　Jacob lived with his uncle Laban for 14 years, plus 6 years, for a total of 20 years, in order to get a wife. This caused many conflicts. So Jacob decided to return to his homeland. To run away at night. At that time, Laban gave chase, and when he caught up with him, God appeared to Laban and told him not to argue with Jacob. Even to poor Jacob, God threw His mantle of protection over him.
