「很想要」的英文，真的只是程度不同嗎？
一個人可以 hungry for experience，像心裡有個缺口，怎麼吸收都還不夠。
但當 wanting 繼續往前走，它也可能變成 greedy——想要得太多；甚至變成 covetous——目光開始落在別人已經擁有的東西上。
這一集，我們跟著瀛瀛和 Scorey 整理一場關於「想要的東西」的展覽。
從一封寫著：
I left home hungry for a life I had never seen.
的旅行信開始，我們會一路遇見對經驗與知識的渴望、對成功與物品的追求，也會走進離家之後的 longing、yearning、pining。
你會發現，有些字描述的是推著人往前的動力；有些藏著距離與思念；還有一些字一出現，說話者其實已經開始對這份欲望做出判斷。
這集也會一起拆開 craving、hankering、desirous、wishful 等容易被當成「eager 的近義詞」的字，看看真正的差異為什麼不只在強弱，而可能藏在詞類、搭配、語域，以及「這個字不能站在哪裡」。
最後，我們還會走進 Archive Room，遇見 agog、appetent、athirst、fervid、warm-blooded 這些不一定需要拿來日常使用，卻值得在閱讀時認得的英文。
因為英文不只是告訴別人：
I want something.
它還可以告訴別人——

Is every way of saying “I really want something” simply a different level of intensity?
Not quite.
Someone can be hungry for experience, driven by an inner sense that something is still missing.
But wanting can also cross a line. It can become greedy—asking for more than seems reasonable—or even covetous, when our attention begins to settle on something that belongs to someone else.
In this episode, Ying-Ying and Scorey are preparing an exhibition about the things people want.
It begins with an old travel letter:
“I left home hungry for a life I had never seen.”
From there, we follow different kinds of wanting: hunger for experience and knowledge, the desire to possess, and the quieter emotions that appear when distance enters the story—longing, yearning, and pining.
Along the way, we also look closely at words such as craving, hankering, desirous, and wishful, where the real difference is not simply “stronger” or “weaker.” Sometimes grammar, collocation, register, and even where a word can naturally appear in a sentence matter more than intensity.
And inside the Archive Room, we encounter rarer expressions including agog, appetent, athirst, fervid, and warm-blooded—words you may not need in everyday conversation, but may one day meet in literature, journalism, or older writing.
Because English can tell us more than:
“I want something.”
The word we choose can reveal:
