"Light and Darkness" is a poem Merlyn Poppleton wrote as a way to remind his grandchildren to always choose the right. We discuss that poem and the choices we make both as parents and as kids, with Adam Poppleton finally here to tell his side of the VW bus story.  

Rachel joined us today to discuss a poem called The Bridge. We also talk about the Mormon church in the 1950s and the little deeds that make generational impact. Also, Rachel makes a binding promise to come see a Broadway musical with Travis.

Heather joined the conversation today to discuss what it was like on both sides of Dad's life as an LA police officer. We discuss tips on how to get off an LA freeway when stalled without a cell phone, talk dad's early days as a police officer, and what we do to stay close as siblings. 

During our conversation we discuss the many stories and some of the folklore of the Poppleton family. Trying to decide what is true and what isn’t, if it even matters, and the best ways to tell a story. We discuss, three toed Willy, The Green Monkey, Step Slide Cabin, and a few others. 

Chapters 4 and 5

I read the first chapter of my book to dad. 

It was such a welcome moment to have Gary join us in our conversations today. Adam, and Gary, and Dad chat scout trips and how lucky they were to have each other. 

Jim Brandon and his daughter join the conversation to discuss the 70's and 80's with the Poppletons. Jim still rides a Harley from Texas to Nevada, and Dad recalls the time Mom and Kay left a penny as a tip.
