On this episode, which we recorded earlier this summer, we ponder the question of whether or not Benoît David was erased from Yes. This was suggested when Fly from Here – Return Trip was released in 2018 with Trevor Horn recording over David's vocals, and it has also been pointed out that this version is the only one available on Spotify and Yes' official YouTube channel. As fans of both versions, we look at this question from different angles, thinking about the people who follow Yes and know the history, and also taking From a Page into account when thinking about David's contributions. When Jon Anderson went off to do ABWH, Yes members Tony Kaye, Trevor Rabin, Chris Squire, and Alan White were left to ponder what to do next. They considered continuing as a quartet, and then considered replacing Anderson with Billy Sherwood, Steve Walsh, or Roger Hodgson. On this episode, we discuss what it might have been like had Yes West gone on without Anderson. Dan recalls when Alan told him about the touring plans with Supertramp before the whole Union thing came together, and we go over the tracks that Yes West worked on around that period, ending with each of us saying what we think the ideal track list for such an album would have been.

This past week saw the birthday of drummer Dylan Howe, son of Yes guitarist Steve Howe. So for this episode, we talk about Dylan's time playing with Yes on the 2017 Yestival tour! Dan recalls his thoughts on the Phoenix show he attended on that tour, and we even included a clip of "Yours Is No Disgrace" from that show and read a few comments about the video. On August 3, 1968, Yes played their first gig at East Mersea Youth Camp. Since then, there have been many lineup changes, and the slot that has changed the most is the keyboardist slot. 40 years ago, on August 1, 1981, MTV launched with The Buggles' "Video Killed the Radio Star" (viewable here: https://youtu.be/PJtiPRDIqtI) To commemorate the occasion, we talk not only about the music videos for that song, but also other music videos by The Buggles as well as Yes music videos that probably aired on MTV. We even talk a bit about Asia, ABWH, and Trevor Rabin's "Something to Hold Onto" music video. But before all that, we touch upon the 49th anniversary of Alan White's first Yes gig (7/30/1972), comments about the song "Mystery Tour" which will be on The Quest, a very brief update on the Monkman situation (you may have already heard), and a Tom Brislin post with a clever Yes reference.

A new Yes song titled "The Ice Bridge" dropped on Friday! On this episode of Yesshift, we talk about our initial reactions to the song, read quotes from the band members about the song, and read off a few fan reactions. After all that, we address the weirdness that has been pointed out regarding similarities to "The Dawn of an Era," which appeared on Francis Monkman's album Energism. We do not have a firm stance, but we go over the confusion and the info that is out there that may potentially shed a bit of light on what's going on. As we say, more info needs to come out to clear stuff up, and this is just our reporting of what's out there and our reactions to it all on Saturday.
