A: Is your phone out of order?

B: What do you mean?

A: I tried calling you all night, but I wasn't able to get through.

B: Oh, I was on the phone all night. Sorry about that.

A: Well, you might wanna add call-waiting to your phone service if you're always on the phone.

B: I guess so.

be out of order: if a machine or piece of equipment is out of order, it is not working（机器、设备）出故障

The phone is out of order again.

get through: to succeed in speaking to someone on the telephone 打通电话

I tried phoning her office, but I couldn't get through.我试图给她办公室打电话，可是打不通。

(be) on the phone: speaking on the telephone 用电话交谈，在通话

You can't see her now she's on the phone. 你现在不能见她－她正在打电话。
