When I beheld your lovely sight

Teaching Zumba on a makeshift deck

With your tiny waist

And smiling face

I saw you with fresh eyes

So began the chase

Time, I did not waste

But oh my, how it flies

I took your class

And stood dead center

You shook your ass

In all it's splendor

So as class ended

I wanted a conversation

But with so many students you befriended

I had to be patient

Awkwardly, I stood

Waiting to be alone

On that floor of hard wood

We were about to set a milestone

When we finally talked

Just you and I

I knew my world was rocked

We exchanged numbers before we said bye

It's my Love's birthday today

From times we fought

From physical and debilitating

I have a proclivity

Toward levity

This essentially means

Expecting to not be perfecting

But trying to get better

The decision to act is the epitome of simplicity

But we often get lost

In the duplicitousness of our minds

Meditation asks us to witness this

And quiet the viciousness, like be kind

With patience, the inner observer shines

Between self and thought, draw the line

This country isn't in

But now, the abuse of power is blatant

Corporations devoured the nation

The land of milk and honey, soured.. its population, complacent

We fought against aristocracy

De-throned the prince and the king

Established democracy

And spread our philosophy

A government by the People, for the People

This was our ideal

Taxes funded it by the People, for the People

But now we're given a raw deal

Inequality the likes of which you never imagined

Has left the zeitgeist bitter and ravaged
