For the longest time, women have been expected to put their own happiness and desires secondary. The society and even her loved ones would hit back at her for prioritizing herself in her life.

Why is it so wrong? Our Mothers sacrifices have been glorified to such an extent that her wishes and dreams have been crushed underneath the weight of others.

But with changing times, while the expectations might still remain, Women are making choices to suit their aspirations. Women are choosing themselves first.

My Today’s guest Wasan Bader Al Malki, a mother of two, a loving wife, a professional and an entrepreneur, shares her thoughts on how it is important to think about ourselves in order to love everyone else in the best possible way and how it truly reflects back into all that we do.

It is Similar to how we must apply our own oxygen mask on an airplane before we put on someone else’s; we are only able to truly extend ourselves to people when our needs are taken care of first.

We often get stuck, thinking of our “lost opportunities,” and wonder, What if I would have gone for it? Or what if, that was the right thing for me ?

Lost opportunities happen when we are nowhere instead of now here, when we are fearful instead of fearless. My today’s guest is an Opportunist and believes in having No What if’s in life.

Rumaitha Al Busaidi, an Omani marine scientist and an advocate for the environment, youth leadership, and women's rights. An award-winning radio presenter and sportswoman, Rumaitha is considered to be the first female soccer analyst in the Arab World. Being the youngest Omani woman to step foot on the South Pole, She continues to be a trailblazer setting an example for Arab women by swimming in the five oceans and seven seas of the world while visiting 73 countries solo.

Witnessing a knowledge gap in increasing the effectiveness of women in the current workforce, she founded WomeX; a 21st-century platform combining AI and culturally-relevant mentoring for women to achieve their 10x potential.

Rumaitha was also named by the European Commission, and the Institute of Economics and Peace (IEP) as a Peace Ambassador. She recently was named as the recipient of Harvard’s prestigious Lucius N. Littauer Fellows Award.

Everyone has dreams and goals. What makes some stand out is not their dream, because it is different or unique, but all that they do and not do in order to achieve and live the dream.

Today at You are Human I have a fierce, confident, passionate lady who is fulfilling her dream of going to college and getting a degree after 27 years of leaving school. She is a mother of 7, a small business owner and a woman with a plan.

Hailing from Sur, she enrolled in a college in Muscat and would travel nearly 500 kms 3 times a week to attend her classes. Managing home and pursuing her childhood unfinished dream, Hasna Mohammed Al-Daoudi is nothing but an inspiration.

As Human beings, it is necessary to live more in the moment, be more mindful and When we become mindful, we realize that we are not our thoughts. Instead of letting our life go by without living it, we actually awaken to experience it.

Today I have someone who is living the Now and is also educating his patients to do so in order to heal and recover faster. Dr Deepak Sharma is the one to have officially introduced Homeopathy in the middle east in 1995.

While he has treated more than 50,000 cases over the last 25 years in Oman and treats over 40 patients a day at his clinic in Muscat, he is here today at You are Human to talk about the Power of Now and how not living in the now is the main cause for so many illnesses. He is also going to share with us some tips in order to practice being in the Now.

In life we usually hear that everything happens for a reason. But when we are thrown into tough waters, it does become difficult to understand the reason. With time of course it reveals itself, but while we are struggling to survive it, we tend to lose our sanity and don’t always see the brighter side.

Today, at You are human, I have someone who is seeing the brighter side and the bigger picture of being diagnosed with testicular cancer, testing Covid 19 positive and of the year 2020 as a whole. Saud Al Junaidy, a 34 year old husband and father of 2 children who was diagnosed with Testicular Cancer in April this year has been since then spreading awareness about the cancer and sharing positive messages by showing everyone that even when times seem to get hard, we should not forget to smile and appreciate the blessings of life.

Today we will talk about a prevailing evil in our society called ‘Colourism’ which is a form of discrimination based on skin tone. Being a byproduct of colonialism, it is also heavily fueled by the global beauty industry, where sales of skin-lightening products are projected to reach $8.9 billion by 2024.

Colourism is such a common discrimination that sometimes we don’t even see it be wrong. Our automatic preference to light skin over dark skin leads to preferential treatment in education, employment and media representation. Humiliation, bullying, lost opportunities, not being able to find a suitable partner are just a few things faced by those born with a dark skin. With the BlackLivesMatter movement there is a lot that is being raised to change for better. But still there is a lot to achieve.
