    Any additional comments?
The story was ok. I really struggled to get in to this story, usually I really enjoy Linda Green but this one started slowly. It got pretty good about half way through though.
    Extremely Enjoyable
Very enjoyable listen. Easy read and kept me wanting to find out what happens.
    So-so story, very enjoyable reader....
Predictable story, but love the reader and genre. Suzy Aitchinson always adds a bit more to what ever she reads. Definitely a white bread listen.
Enjoyed everything but the rush to end the story
The story was believable and had a few humorous moments. It isn't a gripping book but it isn't terribly boring either.
    Very boring
I gave up about half-way through this chicklit romance as I could not bear to listen to the 'heroine' mooning any more about the man she purportedly loves. The story covers two periods of time alternately, their first meetings and their second meetings, several years later. There is an attempt to liven the story with some political interest and a thread about freedom of the press but these are frequently broken up with the heroine having 'heart-stopping moments' and either catching or not catching the 'hero's' eye across a crowded room! I quickly stopped caring one way or another.

Tim Welch is a popular history teacher at the Montague Academy, an exclusive private school in Brooklyn Heights. As he says, "I was an odd-looking, gawky kid but I like to think my rocky start forced me to develop empathy, kindness, and a tendency to be enthusiastic. All of this, I'm now convinced, helped in my quest to be worthy of Kate Oliver."
Now, Kate is not inherently ordinary. But she aspires to be. She stays home with their two young sons in a modest apartment, trying desperately to become the parent she never had. They are seemingly the last middle-class family in the Heights, whose world is turned upside down by Anna Brody, the new neighbor who moves into the most expensive brownstone in Brooklyn, sending the local society into a tailspin.
Anna is not only beautiful and wealthy; she's also mysterious. And for reasons Kate doesn't quite understand, even as all the Range Rover-driving moms jockey for invitations into Anna's circle, Anna sets her sights on Kate and Tim and brings them into her world.
Like Tom Perrotta, Peter Hedges has a keen eye for the surprising truths of daily life. The Heights is at once light of touch and packed with emotion and depth of character.

    Fairly self-indulgent
This is in a particular genre: the young privileged woman who write about the trials and tribulation of her upper middle class existence. I can't get into it because she seems talking more to herself than her audience. It doesn't exactly draw you in.
    I don't recommend this book.
Thought I would listen to this because I have a connection to Brooklyn Heights. What a waste of time! I only stuck with it to the end because it was so short. Don't think I'll choose this author again. Also, "Kate's"
    voice was flat.

    Publisher's Summary:
New York Stars, the rookie quarterback figures the world is his oyster. Reality sets in after meeting his football "family" -- the all-too benevolent owner, Papa Goldman; his daughter, the Stars' Director of Communications, Dominique, who has a certain fondness for quarterbacks; a frustrated head coach; a team full of malcontents and racial tensions; and a very shady Director of Player Personnel.
But all of his concerns become secondary when an ex-Stars quarterback is murdered, and Brody finds himself hustling just to stay alive, while confronting the scars of his own past. With a little luck, smarts, and help from a beautiful aspiring actress, this is one time he can't drop the ball. Someone seems intent on sabotaging the Stars, and perhaps the future of entire football league is at stake.
Retired gridiron great Boomer Esiason has delivered a sharp, edgy, insiders look at the game and the business of professional football.
    Members Reviews:
A very good read, even if you could care less about football
Toss is a very satisfying read, one that is hard to put down. The research was excellent and the story unfolds quickly, without a lot of boring - and unnecessary - football details. Don't get the wrong idea - there is lots of football 'stuff' in this book and the facts ring curiously true. Most of the events probably really occured, names changed to protect the guilty. Yes, I read North Dallas Fourty. This book is nothing like that. It is told from the rookie point of view, by someone still in love with the game. The characters are vivid with gratuitous sex kept to a minimum. This book will be enjoyed by both men and women.
    Fast-paced and outrageous
I am recovering from surgery, so I happily accepted this book as a gift from a friend who knew I couldn't handle my usual more challenging reading fare. I was surprised at how much I wanted to turn the page to find out what would happen next. Is the book as good as a classic noir or detective novel? No. But it's got characters who are memorable enough and scenes that are outrageous enough and quips that are snappy enough that it is a legitimate entry in those channels.
The plot builds on Boomer Esiason's expertise about pro football. It's a warped, dark, over-the-top NFL --- basically, all the bad stories that leak out these days, but compacted into one team. Almost every player has a dark past and current vices. The team covers up those problems and provides players with outrageous amounts of medications in order to keep them on the field AND to keep them dependent on the team. The team is owned by an aging businessman who needs a way to sell to a newer generation of owner, but that owner has his own dark past. So, together, the two have been tanking the team for 3 years in order to make the situation so desperate that the NFL owners will accept the outsider as the new owner/financial savoir. Into this toxic mix comes a rookie quarterback with confidence, attitude, and skills. As he discovers the layers of deception and vice, he threatens to topple the scheme. The plot is his race to discover what's really going on before people helping him are killed or before he is disabled on the field.
A few complaints. I think there's more sexual references and sexual violence in the book than is necessary, Sthough I have never spent time with college or NFL players, so maybe that is how they think and talk.

    Is unputdownable a word?
And I thought "Q&A" was brilliant....
This story is so cleverly told, everything is woven together brilliantly. I love Vikas Swarup, he is an amazing storyteller and manages to somehow imbibe a sense of hope into the most hopeless of situations and lives. He draws the class and caste contrasts beautifully and draws the reader into the lives of his characters completely.
I enjoyed the narration, although the American accent of our call centre hero did nothing for me. I am not American, so not an expert judge, but it didn't sound quite right to me.....
    great listen
It's easy to listen o, fun, totally non-pretentious, filled with big & little truths in its observations of the universals of life, somewhat schematic at times, but never boring. An author that proceeds with leisure at an easy pace, with equal interest in all his characters.
    Exhaustingly convoluted
Unfortunately this narrator's tone irritated me. I suspect it was meant to be funny in its melodrama, but if so, it failed. The tales of unchecked corruption and self-interest held no redemption. I slogged through the whole thing based on the writer's reputation, and came away tired and disappointed. Points for unbelievably twisted narrative that I could not follow, if that's praiseworthy.
    Narration monotonous and boring storyline
I really struggled to listen to this book and couldn't get past the first two hours. I tried and tried but found the narration horribly monotonous and unsuited to the characters being read. That combined with a plot that failed to grab my attention and interest has left this book unfinished for over a month - and I'm usually the kind of listener who gets through a good book too quickly and is stuck without any listening material for 3 weeks.
Tangible India - the impossible whodunnit
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, I will! I already have.It provides an intelligent and insightful taste of India - one can feel the crowds, touch the garments, taste the food, dislike the politicians. Six Suspects brings this interesting and complex country and culture to life.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
The plot was initially very difficult to follow, until each of the main characters has stamped his or her own story unto the plot. It started making sense in Part II and really came together in Part III.
What about Lyndam Gregorys performance did you like?
His tones, his accents for each character, his enthusiasm, his consistency with regard to each individual character. It was a really good audio performance. Even if you don't like the story, its worth listening just for the performance.
Who was the most memorable character of Six Suspects and why?
The tribal guy. He is the mirror in which all societies should look at themselves. The cellphone thief was also adorable.Mohan Kumar was the least believable of all the characters.

    dearest e,
I told you I would let you know - so here it is - goodbye.
I try to imagine what it would feel like if it was you - but it's impossible to conjure the world without you, even though we've been apart so long.
I didn't leave you anything. You got to live my life. That's enough. Instead I'm experimenting - I've left the whole lot to the twins. I hope they'll enjoy it.
Don't worry, it will be okay.
Say goodbye to Jack for me.
    Love, despite everything,
    e
Julia and Valentina Poole are normal American teenagers - normal, at least, for identical 'mirror' twins who have no interest in college or jobs or possibly anything outside their cozy suburban home. But everything changes when they receive notice that an aunt whom they didn't know existed has died and left them her flat in an apartment block overlooking Highgate Cemetery in London. They feel that at last their own lives can begin...but have no idea that they've been summoned into a tangle of fraying lives, from the obsessive-compulsive crossword setter who lives above them to their aunt's mysterious and elusive lover who lives below them, and even to their aunt herself, who never got over her estrangement from the twins' mother - and who can't even seem to quite leave her flat....
With Highgate Cemetery itself a character and echoes of Henry James and Charles Dickens, Her Fearful Symmetry is a delicious and deadly 21st-century ghost story about Niffenegger's familiar themes of love, loss, and identity. It is certain to cement her standing as one of the most singular and remarkable novelists of our time.
    Members Reviews:
    Very disappointing, wasted my credit
What disappointed you about Her Fearful Symmetry?
This has to be one of the most silliest and futile works I have come across. After 2 hours I was getting fed up but persisted to listen as I thought this should hopefully better. After 4 hours in just couldn't anymore!
What do you think your next listen will be?
    Nothing written by Audrey Niffenegger
    Which scene was your favorite?
    none
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
    disappointment
    Any additional comments?
The narrator is excellent! Very talented
    Worst ending ever!
What disappointed you about Her Fearful Symmetry?
I was left wondering what happened and did not believe the ending. Maybe it was because this was the abridged version.
What was most disappointing about Audrey Niffeneggers story?
    The ending.
Have you listened to any of Sian Thomass other performances before? How does this one compare?
No but Sian was spectacular! I would happily buy a book just to hear her again.
What character would you cut from Her Fearful Symmetry?
I'm not sure, it was not the characters that were disappointing.
    Any additional comments?
I loved the time travelers' wife. It is one of my all time favourite books and I have listened to it about 30 times. I was so looking forward to another of Audrey's books and this one, although quirky (but that is Audrey's style), was going well until that ending.
I will now wait till Audrey's next book to see if I remain a fan of hers.

    Publisher's Summary:
Set in the little town of Dot in a forgotten part of the Baltic, it tells the story of Tibo Krovic, the good and honest Mayor of Dot, and his love for his secretary, the beautiful, lonely, but married, Mrs Agathe Stopak. In the quiet, respectable town of Dot there is nothing that Tibo can do about his love for Mrs Stopak but, one day, when she accidentally drops her lunch into a fountain, everything changes and their lives will never be the same again.
The Good Mayor is a story of love, loss, magic, friendship, wonderful food, a brass band, an Italian witch, a large lawyer, an occasional dog and a car chase at walking pace. Beautifully written, this is one of the finest debut novels in years.
    Members Reviews:
    Enthralling magical entertainment
If you usually steer clear of "love stories" do not be discouraged by this description - it is one of the most amazing, entertaining, imaginative and truly magical pieces of writing I have enjoyed for a long time. The superb use of words and the incredibly detailed, fascinating and often humourous descriptions of even some normally ordinary things make this a delight. As I listened I wanted to keep stopping to note and remember so many unusual and fascinating quotable phrases and sentences.
You can get an idea of the story from the summary, but this cannot do it justice and to try and tell more would constitute "spoiling", although the last sentence conveys the wide range of interest. At times suspense is built for so long it is almost as painful for the listener as for the characters and then the author resolves things in ways we could not imagine but laugh or nearly cry and always enjoy. The tale unfolds from the multiple viewpoints and through the person of the bearded and warty local Saint Walpurnia, who looks down on her charges in an imaginary Baltic area where places are called Dot, Dash and Umlaut and where the River Ampersand flows through. ( Doesn't that whet your appetite?)
There could be no better narrator than Penelope Keith whose flawless spoken English is such a pleasure and who captures every last nuance of expression and makes each of the many different characters real.
Apologies for raving -just loved it!
    The true meaning of delightful
I absolutely loved listening to this book. It really did delight me. I think Andrew Nicoll could describe paint drying and he could make it quirky, clever, and just delightful. I found myself listening intently for his descriptive moments as much as for what the characters were thinking and doing. When I first started listening to it, I thought I already knew pretty much what was going to happen and just enjoyed it for the descriptions. But I quickly realised that this story is not predictable and every time I though I knew where it was going, it would change. So it was engaging from start to finish. The only aspect I got a bit tired of was Agathe's personality. I started to find her a bit annoying but not enough to detract from the whole of the novel. Penelope Keith was wonderful, absolutely perfect for the characters and plot she was dealing with.
    Unusual & Enjoyable
Penelope Keith's narration was superb. The story was very unusual but I loved it. I would recommend it.
    Enjoyable!
Enjoyable, full of eloquence and fluidity. Enjoyed the narrator's use of voice and humour. Worth listening, endlessly.
