    great book
I am reading this to my class---they love it. It is very heartwarming. Taylor is one of my favorite authors for children's books.
Tuck Triumphant was a good book.
    Kirah Book Review
Tuck Triumphant was a good book. I would recommend this to a friend because a dog is a man's best friend. The main characters are the Helen, Tuck, Mr. and Mrs. Ogden, Stan , Luke, Chok-Do, and Lady Daisy. Tuck is a blind dog, but Lady Daisy is Tuck's seeing eye dog. It was interesting when the Odgens didn't know that they adopted a little deaf boy, Chok-Do Choi. They thought that they adopted a regular kid. He is a little Korean boy that is 6 yrs. old. Well, the wasn't very fast, I thought. Don't take my word for it, read to see if they keep Chok-Do.
I think that the book Tuck Triumphant is great!
The story is about a blind dog named Tuck and there other dog named Lady Daisy. A boy named Chok-Do which is deaf and a girl named Helen, her brothers are Stan and Luke,And their
Michelle parents are Mr. and Mrs.Ogden. Mr. and Mrs.Ogden have the hardest decision. It is if they should keep Chok-Do or not.
Near the end of the book Lady Daisy gets attacked by a pit bull.
When they go to Near Summer Camp where Chok-Do runs away and when Helen and Tuck find him, he was standing next to a couger. By the way you have to read the book to see what happens to Lady Daisy, Helen, Tuck, and Chok-Do and find out if they are going to keep Chok-Do or not. Michelle
    Tuck Triumphant
Tuck Triumphant is a fascinating book about a teenage girl named Helen Ogden who adores her two dogs, Tuck and Daisy. Tuck becomes blind, and Daisy leads him where he needs to go. Helen's family adopts a boy named Chok-Do Cho and discovers he is deaf. Chok-Do gets into trouble causing Helen to go on scary and exciting adventures. The problem is that Helen's family still was not finding a better way to communicate, causing the mother and father to consider sending him back. Can the Ogden family learn to live with a dog that is blind plus a boy who is deaf? Read the book to find out.
    I liked it about 10%.
    TUCK TRIUMPHANT
I read the book Tuck Triumphant. I didn't like it very much. I liked it about 10%. It really just didn't draw me into the story. The story is about Ogden family adopting a Korean boy named Choke-Do. The Ogden children, Helen, Luke, and Stan, are not very happy about it because they have to switch rooms. When the boy comes, blind Tuck and Lady Daisy love playing with Choke-Do, but something happens to Lady Daisy, and Choke-Do's deaf! Should they keep him or send him back? Read the book to find out!

There are tons of movies about aliens coming to Earth. Sometimes they come to be our friends, sometimes they come to destroy us - and sometimes they come to make circles in our cornfields. But what about reality? Do scientists actually believe there is intelligent life somewhere out in space? In fact, many scientists spend their days looking for signs of life throughout the galaxy. Others look for ways to make contact with aliens if they exist. And still others try to figure out how life beyond Earth would even be possible. Quite a few of these scientists also have some things to say about UFOs, crop circles, alien abductions, and little green men, too. What you learn just might amaze you. Author Gloria Skurzynski condenses the major ideas about alien life into an entertaining and informative book that will surely have listeners looking toward the skies.

Her only source of comfort is her beloved pet gecko, Weemis. Everything changes when Mrs. Hiller introduces Lily to the owner of the Pet Palace, a nearly pet store, and his adult Down's syndrome son, Nate. Perfect
I thought that the book was more than perfect and I've already read it twice an I still love it!
    Willowood
I've been reading books this summer about 11-year-old girls. Why am I doing this? Because "Hefty Holly" (the heroine of my Don't Call Me Hefty Holly) is eleven.
Lily has moved to a new place and a new town and she's not happy. She's missing her best friend, Baily, and their special secret outdoor meeting place. Willowood. It's a woodsy, leafy, mysterious and special. There'll never be another place like it or another friend like Baily.
Lily's single mom has to work long hours at her new job, so their new neighbor, Mrs. Hiller, who's as kind and grandmotherly as she can be, looks after our heroine but can't take the place of Lily's mother. Riverside Heights, Lily's new school,is a downer too. The kids are mean to her, especially the rich, blond Amanda, who's the fifth grade class leader. The only girl who's nice to Lily is Gina--but kids make fun of her too! Of course Amanda's the leader in the bad treatment of both girls.
Finally, something good happens! Mrs. Hiller's friend,Bernard, who owns the Pet Palace, offers Lily an after-school job! The Pet Palace, with its huge selection of lizards,is the perfect place for her--she's lizard fan. Then Lily meets Bernard's grown son, Nate--who makes her nervous because he has Down Syndrome.
Does Lily and Nate ever become friends? Does Gina and Lily become friends? Does Amanda ever stop being a "mean girl"?
And does Lily ever find a new Willowood?Don't Call Me Hefty Holly
    Made me Cry
This book is so good! I had to do summer reading last year, and I picked this book along with some others. I really suggest you read this book. It made me cry. This is a really good story about a young girl, Lilly, and her new best friend, Nate, who happens to be autistic. Lilly soon finds out that Nate's dad owns a pet shop, and that his wife died. Nate is so upset about his mom dying, and Lilly can relate to that because her parents got divorced. As I said, I seriously suggest this book to read. Very, very good book. I just have to rate it 5 stars. =]

Not Lovecraftian ... but not bad!
Tales from Lovecraft Middle School #1: Professor Gargoyle / 1594745919
"Tales from Lovecraft Middle School" is a new YA series I've stumbled into; the books are set in a world much like our own, with the minor difference that no one has ever heard of H.P. Lovecraft, and Cthulhu and Shoggoths and whatnot all exist and are rapidly crawling out of the woodwork at the local brand-new middle school. And our everyman YA protagonist Robert Arthur is stuck in the middle between the adults-who-don't-know and the monsters-who-do.
I love Lovecraftian stories and am always down for a new exploration of the mythos, but I will admit upfront that these books are a little disappointing in the execution of the themes. For me, at least, it's not really enough to slap demons and tentacle-monsters into a book for it to be Lovecraftian; if there's not soul-crushing foreboding and a descent into a horrified lonely mind-breaking nightmarish existence, then it's just not the same. And "Tales from Lovecraft Middle School" doesn't really delve into existential angst or soul-striping fear, probably because the targeted YA audience needs to be able to sleep at night. I get that, and I think the series is fine as a "Lovecraftverse, but not Lovecraftian feel", but if you are coming to the series for that, be aware you're probably not going to get it.
Once I got over my initial disappointment that the tone wasn't quite what I'd hoped for going in, I was pleased to find that this book is still solidly good. It reminds me a lot of the Percy Jackson series, but with Lovecraftian monsters instead of Ancient Greek Mythology ones, which I think we can all agree is a positive thing. The writing is solid, the action moves at a good clip, I never felt like the narrative got bogged down in any place, and the characterization is really well-developed. I think I liked the characterization the most, actually; Robert Arthur is an everyman, but avoids coming off as bland, and his girlfriend and sidekick are both surprisingly well realized. I was also pleased to note that while at least one twist is telegraphed reasonably far in advance for the genre-savvy reader, a final twist is justified nicely enough that it felt very natural indeed. So kudos for that.
Overall, this opening to the series is well-written and fast-paced and I enjoyed it thoroughly once I adjusted my expectations for the content. This probably won't curl your toes in fear, but if you like mythological YA school series, this one can scratch a somewhat edgier itch.

Beautiful and touching story about love and loss
I read this book last night, having merely picked it up to see if my daughter would like it. I couldn't put it down. The style is so gentle, and much like the books I read in my own childhood, rather than those stories which feel so forced to demonstrate how cool they are in order to interest today's children. I imagine many very normal girls will be very interested by the excellent style of the writer, by the story of the flower fairies which takes place in a summer garden, and by the genuine love and emotion which is generated by the interaction between the main characters.
The story is about two sisters whose mother has just died. The older one is able to admit to herself how lonely she feels for her mother. Yet she is also able to sacrifice her own need to grieve in order to care for her younger sister whose response to loss has been to obey rigid self-imposed routines and to contol her life in a way her mother's death would bely, by keeping outsiders strictly out of her life. The girls spend a summer with an elderly aunt and pursue an old mystery they read about in one of the books in the aunt's ancient home. Much of the action is spent in a wildly unkempt but magical and charming garden, and the girls' journey from grief to a more peaceful acceptance of their loss is a somewhat magical journey. The story gives a very positive role to the elderly aunt whose home they spend the summer visiting, and also paints a beautiful picture of sisterly support and love.
It's an absolute treasure of a book and I highly recommend it.
