Excellent Modern Fairy Tale for All

I thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful flow of this vibrant and imaginative story. The author's descriptive words carried me to a world of kings, queens, fairy tale creatures, and adventure. I could imagine each character, as well as the colorful surroundings. It is fun to immerse myself in another world for awhile. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy tales.

Vividly-written fantasy will engage young readers

Wow. Reardon writes with such incredible imagery.

Young readers will love this captivating tale of good vs evil, crafted in a way that girls can easily identify with. Meanwhile, parents can rest assured that a good lessons are being taught: to be loyal, kind, and humble is far greater than being boastful, flashy and greedy.

Delightful

This is definitely the book for young minds. C. S. Lewis would be proud. I love it and would recommend this to all ages but read this to your children.

Pleasant read.

This was a fairly predictable story for adults but would be a nice bedtime story for small children. A mix of pagan ideas with Christian to get morals into the mix. The writing style is geared to the younger reader.

My kids haven't ever enjoyed an audiobook so much

If you could sum up Patty Gayle and the Legend of Kingsley in three words, what would they be?

fun, whimsical, entertaining

What did you like best about this story?

I think I liked that it was so accessible to my kids. Even my youngest followed the entire story, start to finish. We listen to tons of audiobooks, but my guys (all boys) have never gotten as excited about one as this. They were constantly asking what I thought would happen next. The plot isn't complicated, but I think they loved the fact that there was a typical, everyday girl going through such fantastic adventures.

Have you listened to any of Gail Shalans other performances before? How does this one compare?

I haven't listened to her before, but she had nice, clear dictation and didn't detract from the story with over-the-top dramatics.

Any additional comments?

This was my first book by Cynthia P Willow, but I had heard good things about her. I heartily recommend this book for any young audience who enjoys adventure.

I absolutely love this story of Patty Gayle. By the time I finished my own faith was increased exponentially and I cannot wait to read the next book

This is the first time I've read or listened to this kind of story. I enjoyed it very much, if you like books that are about mistical places it's a must read. the narration was wonderful. now I have to get book 2

What did you like best about this story?

I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook by Cynthia Willow. Cynthia's description of both the characters and the world around them is vivid and will leave lasting picture. Patty is a believable character who wrestles with her situation and learns a great deal about what it means to have faith. I found this to be a fun read that all ages would enjoy.

Charming fantasy story

I would compare it with CS Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia. Both stories involved humans from our world traveling to another world and becoming entangled in the struggles of the locals.

What does Gail Shalan bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

She really made it feel as though you were being told the story, rather than just reading it, or listening to someone read it.

A Real Treasure

Laura Richard was an incredibly gifted writer. This book is an example of truly "good and beautiful" writing. Originally published in 1917, the book tells a humorous and engaging story. The official description reads, "Spoiled New York City girl, Hildegarde Graham, is sent to stay with her mother's old nurse in the country. When her parents must take a trip to California, Hildegarde learns the value of simplicity, kindness, and a more democratic sensibility." I found this book tremendously inspiring and fun to read; I liked it even more than the classic book Pollyanna. This is definitely a book I will read aloud to my own children. The Audible version is fantastic. Boys and girls of all ages, even older children, should enjoy this story.

Adult might like but my 8 and 11 year olds didn't.

but in the best of ways

What can I say? Reading this to my son was such a pleasure!

So in short, the book is about and a boy and his (sort-of) friend battling to save a farm of (not so) extinct animals from his friend's crazy taxidermist step mother, who needs to stuff the ultimate animal in order to win the Golden Brain Spoon.

Sound weird? Well it is, but in the best of ways!

Actually, it's about the best Middle Grade novel I've read to my son all year--full of adventure and British wit, and a dash of rawness that grounds this adventure story in reality. It was wonderful the way this author so gently touched on the difficulties of singlemother-hood and struggling financially and the distant father all the while crafting a colorful, funny, story that kids would (and in the case of my son, did) eat up!

Fun Facts That Happen At Night

This fun book makes it easy for kids and adults to learn something new. There are some amazing things happen only at night. Who knew there was a vampire flying frog that changes its color, only after dark? This is a great book for the whole family to enjoy.

Seemingly "fun" gift but actually with lots of very cool interesting info.

My son is 8 and an avid reader but I think that even older children/adults would find the information interesting.

Nothing special

The author really shouldn't have narrated this book. he basically whispered the while thing and all the characters spoke the same way. I'm pretty sure this affected my opinion negatively on the book overall.
