Between 2 and 3 stars
I wavered between two and three stars. This book wasn't what I thought it would be and almost lost me at the first chapter.
In the beginning...actually, the entire first chapter jumps around a lot, covering lot's of other books, their outlines and their stories. Several times I had to check back to make sure this was indeed a first chapter and not a forward by other authors. It was confusing.
After that, it settled into the author's definition of what The Love Shack is, the importance of a relationship with Christ, and how to achieve that in your life. Lot's of scripture references thrown in as well.
While it had some great high-lights, it felt like I was reading a lengthy testimony, plus invitation, marketed in book form.
I had thought it was going to be a straightforward story. It wasn't.
I guess I was in the mood to read a story and not a sermon, which is what it ended up being.
If this is your kind of thing, you will love it.
This wasn't my thing.
The Love Shack
Like other reviewers have mentioned, the book starts off a little slow and somewhat confusing. I was unsure at first what the primary focus was, since the author refers to several other books in the first chapter. But, from there, I was happy to find this book was really quite wonderful.
The Love Shack is filled with positive information for readers. I loved the message that "Fulfillment is experienced only when you are living out the purpose for which you were born." This reaffirms the idea that God has created us all for a purpose and it's our responsibility to fulfill that purpose or we'll always be at odds with ourselves - and with God.
The author refers to Biblical scripture and a variety of other books and authors to make his points. I found it a fascinating and inspiring read. Highly recommended!
Uplifting Read
Started out a little slow, but then exploded into an explanation of what one's true experience with the Lord can be. I struggle a lot with the human rules surrounding religion. They always make me feel that I can never be good enough, that I must adhere to every little church rule. But this book reinforces the idea that that is not what a true spiritual relationship is about at all. I love that idea. I have a nephew who has defined himself totally with church rule adherence. He can no longer even relate to people except in a judgmental manner. I pray he is enlightened by books like this.
God's redeeming love and how we can benefit from accepting that redeeming ...
This book jumps around a lot in the beginning talking about various Christian books. After the jumping around it then gets into the meat of it.
