While Christians have had a long heritage of rigorous scholarship and careful thinking, some circles still view the intellect with suspicion or even as contradictory to Christian faith. And many non-Christians are quick to label Christians as anti-intellectual and obscurantist. But this need not be so. In this classic introduction to Christian thinking, John Stott makes a forceful appeal for Christian discipleship that engages the mind as well as the heart.

"Who am I? What is my purpose? What is my life all about?" These are questions Christians are asking all over the world. Why is this? It is because something is stirring deep within their beings, telling them there is more that God wants to show them about himself, and there is more of him they desperately need in order to answer those questions. The Journey to the Inner Chamber is a creative allegory that introduces a path of discovery that will lead the listener to the answers to many of those questions.

Perfect compliment with the "Catholic Viewers Guide" for the video series, "The Bible Continue A.D." it gives you a full perspective and additional insights on the day in the life of the desciples, during the short time our Lord Jesus Christ lived here with us on earth.
Bad things happen to all of us, not just me.
We all know, or should, that bad things happen not to punish us, God doesn't do that. Our punishment will come at the end.
This is a wonderful insightful read. A well written book that will make you feel good, if not better about yourself.
I especially enjoy the prayers at the end of the book and read them almost daily.

  • What Is Faith? Audiobook by R. C. Sproul

    Title: What Is Faith?
Subtitle: Crucial Questions Series, Book 8
    Author: R. C. Sproul
    Narrator: Maurice England
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 1 hr and 27 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 12-15-14
    Publisher: christianaudio.com
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 10 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
The word "faith" is heard often these days, but it is given many different meanings. Sometimes it is used in the sense of trust. Other times, it has more to do with hope. Perhaps most often, it is used to mean belief in something apart from rational or empirical support. Because faith is central to the Christian life, believers must have a clear understanding of how the Bible defines the word and the concept. In this Crucial Questions audiobook, Dr. R. C. Sproul looks to Hebrews 11, the great faith chapter of the Bible, for a definition of faith and numerous examples of it in the lives of the saints. He shows that faith, in scriptural terms, is not believing in God, but believing God and living according to His Word. Armed with this helpful teaching, listeners will gain clarity as to whether the faith they profess is the genuine article.
    Members Reviews:
Strong, concise and clear Biblical instruction on an often-misunderstood topic.
âFaithâ is a term loosely thrown around by everyone, yet there is much confusion as to what the concept really means. This bewilderment is a major problem because faith is one of the core principles upon which Christianity is built, and it plays a central role in the lives of Christians.
In What is Faith? R. C. Sproul answers this confusion by giving readers a sound Biblical education on faith, based primarily on Hebrews 11:1.
Using this verse as a foundation, he expands on the notion that faith is never subjective and âblindâ but objective and based upon genuine historical facts and tangible divine promises. Faith thus becomes the result of embracing reason and studying empirical support as opposed to rejecting them.
This booklet emphasizes the fact that faith means believing God (not believing in Him), His promises, and has quantifiable results in the life of all believers. Faith is also a gift of grace and is not derived from the corruptible self. Sproul illustrates these ideas by providing numerous Biblical examples, demonstrating what faith looks like in practical terms. Another added bonus of this book is that the author often takes small detours into philosophy, apologetics, and commentary on the state of Christianity to reveal how a misunderstanding of faith can result in an altered perception of what the gospel of Christ is really about.
What is Faith? is the 8th installment in a 17-part series about the core doctrines of the Christian faith. Being less than 100 pages and easy to read, you will likely be able to get through this book in one quick sitting. Without a doubt, this is easily accessible to all people and provides a strong Biblical foundation to help anyone clarify the concept of faith. Certainly, it would be hard to find anything not worthwhile and written by R. C. Sproul. After reading through these pages, you will gain clarity as to whether the faith you proclaim is in fact the genuine article.
YOU BETTER BELIEVE THIS IS AN IMPORTANT READ ABOUT FAITH!
âWhat Is Faith?â is the 8th in Sproulâs 17-book series about the fundamentals of Christianity. I was correct in my last review - within a couple pages Sproul hits Hebrews 11:1 & âNow faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen . . .â.

    Members Reviews:
    Impressive with one shortcoming
I browsed this book and was very impressed. I recommend you get it, especially if you are open to the idea of using a daily devotional.
The one drawback I found is that the table of contents links need to be improved. In an ebook format for a daily devotional it is not enough to provide links to the month, but links to every day of the month should have been included. I own several ebook daily devotionals and they all use this format which allows the reader to start from anywhere and to navigate more easily, especially if days of reading has been missed. It would also be nice if the default page when opening the book was the table of contents. Having to flip through the foreword, word from the author and introduction before getting to the beginning of the devotional itself is laborious. The authors would benefit from observing how some of the best ebook devotionals deal with these elements of navigation and style for the ease of use by readers.
A daily read for all who are searching for true love.
I would highly recommend this book to all who are seriously wanting to know Christ more intimately. Reading it daily has inspired me and brought me closer to the One who loves me the most.
It is a good book! May God bless
This book has prayers that I can use Jesus' name to pray everyday. It is a good book! May God bless!
Beautiful simple - a daily stimulus for focusing on the beauty of Jesus.
I know the author, Steve Hall, personally over the years - a man of prayer, a man who knows and loves Jesus - and this is what this guide to the personality of Jesus, through His names, His character, flows from. Thank you, Brother Steve - a helpful tool to spiritual formation in Christ.
    True Inspiration!!
This is a truly inspirational devotional. I am really enjoying getting to know Jesus in so many ways that I never thought possible. Thank you, Steve Hall!!

Title: Prayer: Experiencing Awe and Intimacy with God
    Author: Timothy Keller
    Narrator: Sean Pratt
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 9 hrs and 3 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 11-06-14
    Publisher: Hodder & Stoughton
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 10 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
Can't anyone teach me how to pray? Millions of people today are asking the same question. There is a sense of the necessity of prayer - we have to pray. But how?
Prayer is central to Christian faith; indeed, as Timothy Keller notes in his introduction, it is the main way we experience deep change. Yet so many people struggle with prayer - a struggle that the author himself has shared.
This wise and inspiring book is the fruit of those struggles, offering a real and glorious vision of what it can mean to seek God in prayer. Keller begins by giving a theological underpinning of what prayer actually is - both conversation and encounter with a personal God - before describing how we can learn to pray, and then deepen that prayer. Finally he gives detailed, practical suggestions on how to make prayer a part of the reality of daily life.
    Members Reviews:
    Loved this book!
I highly recommend this book for anyone struggling with prayer. It's very practical and he consults a wide range of authors. It's a book that I will most likely go back to.
The best book on prayer ever.
This book is a must for all Christians.
If you want help to be a mature prayerful Christian read this book.
    Very good book
Really interesting, inspiring and easy to follow. Practical and rooted in scripture, it captures the wonder of prayer and is an encouragement to get on and do it.
    Quite dry, academic
It comes across quite like a textbook, or something you might write on a theology course. If that's what you're looking for, it's probably quite good. There's nothing original here though. From the sub-title, I was hoping it would be something that would inspire, but it's too dry for that. I wasn't enamoured by the narration style either, but that's just personal preference.
Having finished it, I want to read it (and will) again!
An easy to read, conversational, pastoral guide to understanding personal prayer. An absolute must read for any Christian.
