Today we are talking about a depressed black community. We discuss why it is that some black communities are in such a distressed state. Can a community as a whole be depressed? We discuss whether or not black communities have pride in things that have been detrimental to us as a whole. Mikell discusses how the black community attacked the church and although the church did have many faults, the church has been vital to our spirituality and has been a hub for improving our communities. Sam, Joe Dupe, and Mikell have a debate about pride and how Mikell thinks that black communities have too much pride which leads to some of the issues that black people have and Sam thinks that black communities have pride in the wrong things and should shift their pride to the things that actually matter. We discuss how it is time for black communities to change their value system in order to make changes. How do we work on our value system and change our environment?
Today we are talking about the show All-American which airs on the CW television network. The show has embedded several mental health themes into this show and we thought we should cover some of them. We discuss the way that mental health can manifest into physical ailments. We also discuss how sometimes we are avoidant with issues that bother us and we can end up in more pain because of it. Sometimes when it comes to the people we love we would rather avoid our issues in order to try to protect their feelings, but all we are doing is creating more issues because those feelings fester and transform into more problems. We also talk about how sometimes avoidance can cause us to take out our emotional issues on the wrong people and be misplaced completely. We discuss attachment styles and how they impact how we interact with the people around us and how we solve problems or avoid them. We also talk about how parents can impact our attachment styles and the attachment styles are usually formed within the first 24 months.

Today we take a look at is the role of men really needed in society. Are there imperative roles that men play in society and are these roles innate or assigned? We take a deep dive at the value of men and what they bring to society, to family, to relationships. How do men hold men accountable for the pain that men cause throughout the years? We discuss sexual assault and how a patriarchal system makes it very difficult for women to get justice. We discuss how feminism truly isn't an attack on manhood, but it is actually making changes in order to obtain true social equality. We discuss the Biblical creation and what we feel was God's purpose when creating man and woman.
Tell Mikell got a question from his sister asking him is sexism always a bad thing. The question was sparked by a previous conversation we had in the "Women Drive the Message" Podcast. We have a conversation with a friend of the show Jessica regarding the difference between sexism and gender roles and whether or not there is ever an instance in which sexism is potentially a good thing. We discuss what the definition of sexism is and how socially we often confuse sexism and gender roles. We also discuss how overly done gender roles can potentially become sexist. We also talk about how men and women have communication issues and we should learn to communicate in a way that the opposite sex will not perceive as sexist.

Is it okay for women to compare the men trying to pursue them to the greatness of their fathers and how they treated them? Good fathers will move mountains for their baby girls, but could this potentially hinder their ability to find love as an adult? Sam Dupe talks about how he goes above and beyond to be the best father possible, but he wants to make sure his daughters have realistic standards for how men in the future will treat them. We discuss the impact of parental relationships on adult romantic relationships. We talk about the natural progression of relationships and how that can be circumvented by unrealistic expectations. We also discuss how our relationship with our parents can bleed into our adult romantic relationships.

In today’s episode we are having a conversation about grief. Joe Dupe recently lost his ex-girlfriend someone very close to him that he shared a lot of memories with from college until early adulthood. He talks about the shock and the wave of emotions that he has felt dealing with grief. We discuss the feelings of regret and guilt that come along with experiencing the death of a loved one. Mikell breaks down the 5 stages of grief and gives us an idea of what they look like. Sam discusses ego and how sometimes our ego can limit the way we experience life and sometimes can cause us to not love in the manner that we could or maybe should love while our loved ones are here with us. Mikell makes it clear to us that every relationship is going to end in a tragedy and that is because these people mean something to us. Rest in perfect peace Brittany Cherry.

Today we bring JG onto the show to talk about the epic battle between the hedgefunds and the retail traders over the Gamestop stock. JG explains what a short squeeze is and gives some background on the Gamestop controversy. We talk about why this type of financial revolution should matter to black people and elaborate on how the financial crisis of 2008 left black wealth cut in half. Buying Gamestop stock hurt some of the same predatory companies that took advantage of the common people during the housing crisis. This Gamestop short squeeze situation introduced a lot of new people to the stock market and so we also discuss where the financial market goes from here and how we as normal people can leverage our resources moving forward into the future.
