Featuring some of the doofiest comedy hijinks you can possibly imagine this side of 1998, Julia Roberts in her most unlikeable role, and every other Hollywood A-to-C-lister you can imagine, it’s a… fascinating movie.

This week on the anime podcast, co-hosts Eric Thurm and merritt k tune into the wild world of Sarazanmai, which features high-schoolers who turn into kappas — mythological creatures — to fight “zombie kappas” whose desires have turned them into monsters.

They discuss how the show explores gender, femininity, the treatment of queer characters, and how archetypes are used in all of the above.

This week, horror film superfans Danielle Riendeau, merritt k, and Collin McGregor are joined by once-and-future You Love to See It co-host Dillon Skiffington in watching Shudder exclusive Horror Noire: A History of Black Horror. A dense, well-paced piece that takes a deep dive on black folks in the horror genre, peppered with interviews by scholars, directors, writers and actors, it’s an instructive, highly watchable, and important piece. It’s currently streaming for free on the Shudder platform.
