In this role, Megan helps not only middle and high school students and their families create customized strategies for achieving their academic goals, but also supports adults in navigating their ADHD journey. John is a nationally recognized expert on the topic of creating affirmative support for the LGBTQ community and is the author of Out: A Parent’s Guide to Supporting Your LGBTQIA+ Kid Through Coming Out and Beyond. He is also the host of OutTalk, a monthly web series for OutCare Health that is dedicated to discussing important topics in LGBTQ+ communities. OutTalk aims to address barriers and gaps in care and services through critical and innovative thinking and education.

He is the clinical consultant for The Life Group LA, adjunct faculty at Phillips Graduate Institute and guest lecturer at Alliant University, Cal State Fullerton, and USC School of Social Work. In 2019, John was appointed by Governor Gavin Newsom to the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.

This week Julie and Chrissa are joined by Alex Rohn, Director of Therapeutic Programs at Please Pass the Love. The mission of Please Pass the Love is to transform school mental health through leadership, social justice and collective change.

Alex graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology with minors in Human Relations and Health Promotion. She then attended and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Alex is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and has worked in both school-based and community-based settings providing individual and group therapy.

In addition to this work, she has also worked to provide education and outreach surrounding trauma, mental health, and stress management. Alex is passionate about helping individuals by providing education surrounding mental health. Her passions also include advocating for healthcare reform, postpartum mental health, and systemic change. Alex is a proud and tired mom of twin girls. When she is not caring, cuddling, or chasing one of them, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, drinking lots of coffee, and watching Iowa football.
