A Do Not Resuscitate order, or DNR, is instruction to your medical team of how to respond to your death. When crisis of death occurs, and a DNR order is on the record, it instructs the physician and nurses (medical team) to allow for a natural death when the heart stops. DNR is an actual order informing the healthcare team to support a patient, provide care and comfort, but when death occurs no CPR is to be performed. Other life sustaining treatments (LST) in addition to CPR include: ventilators, dialysis treatments, transfusions and blood products, and artificial nutrition. Each of these is discussed briefly in this episode.
