Jennifer L. Lawless received her Ph. D in Political Science and is a current Professor of Government and the Director of the Women & Politics Institute at American University. Her research focuses on gender, political ambition, campaigns and elections in the United States. She is the co-author of Running from Office: Why Young Americans Are Turned Off to Politics. Jennifer Lawless conducted a study with 4,000 high school and college students to discover their interest in politics. Surprisingly 89% of them said they wouldn’t ever be interested in running for office.
