Welcome to Episode 15 of Your Hearth at Home!
Today I am excited to be speaking with Shannon of Ceiba Tree Yoga; she has been a practitioner of yoga for over 20 years, a teacher for over 10 years, and is continually engaging in additional education, especially around how the practice of yoga can be trauma informed and accessible for a wider range of practitioners.
Today – as was voted on by the From the Hearth Collective on Facebook – Shannon and I chat about anxiety. Shannon shares about her experience with trauma and how her asana – or her yogic movement practice – has helped her progress on her healing journey on many different levels – from where she started with a more rigid regime to now a very soft and invitational flow. She also shares other tools that she employs around anxiety, and how she creates space to tune into being safe in the body, our intuition, and to what actually serves us in each moment.

Welcome to Episode 14, Part 4, of Your Hearth at Home!
*Trigger Notice - Incidents of Violence, Verbal and Physical Racism*
This is the final part of Ali’s story, so if you have not yet heard the previous three episodes, I encourage you to do so to provide context to where Ali picks up his story now. As a brief reminder, at this point Ali is now a legal refugee in the US and has just moved away from his original host family and into his own room in an Evangelical home. It is this personal space that provides him with stable peace and quiet for what seems like the first time since he was eight years old. In the silence he finds the practice of detachment from his pain, creating space in his being for study and to engage in practices such as gratitude and working with affirmations, while noticing the Law of Attraction at work in his life. He continues going to Church, working in the chainsaw factory and at his cleaning job, as well as working with computers on the side.
It has been so humbling to experience Ali’s story, and to witness him stepping up in his own healing journey and in yours through sharing his experiences and wisdom with you. May be inspired to never give up, to understand how every experience is truly for you, and to transform out of victim mindset, maintaining growth mindset through the worst of times.
Please note that there will be no episode released on August 10 so that you may take the week to catch up with Ali's story!

Welcome to Episode 14, Part 3, of Your Hearth at Home!
*Trigger Notice - Incidents of Violence, Verbal and Physical Racism*
If you have yet to listen to the first two parts, I encourage you to do so, to provide context to where Ali picks up his story now. As a brief reminder, he has made it to the US on a work Visa as a cook at a summer camp. On his first day it was clear that he did not have the skills or training that he had indicated on his application, and so he was facing being sent back to Ukraine after all that he had done to make it to the States. Understanding logically that he couldn’t run for it, he came up with an idea to be of service to the camp in a different way, by delivering food to the tables so that parents and campers didn’t have to walk for their food – as inspired by the idea of a drive thru – something Ali hadn’t experienced prior to arriving in the States. It was this innovation that saved him from being sent back to Ukraine, and gave him the chance to pursue his application to claim refugee status in the US.

Welcome to Episode 14, Part 2, of Your Hearth at Home!
*Trigger Notice - Incidents of Violence, Verbal and Physical Racism*
If you have yet to catch Part 1, I encourage you to do so, to provide context to where Ali picks up his story now. As a brief reminder, at this point Ali and his family have just been deported from Germany where they had claimed refugee status, back to Ukraine from where they had fled due to extreme encounters with racism after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Welcome to Episode 14, Part 1, of Your Hearth at Home!
*Trigger Notice - Incidents of Violence, Verbal and Physical Racism*
This week’s offering is going to be different than what you’re used to on this show. This week we have the pleasure of hearing Ali Olshan’s story. To give you a preview, Ali was born in the Soviet Union to black and white parents. He escaped racism in Ukraine, crossing borders undocumented and claiming refugee status four times in Germany and the United States. He is now a permanent resident living in the US with full status, and is a proud US Patriot.
I first connected with Ali indirectly through a mutual friend, and we instantly clicked. He was ready to tell his story, and I was so grateful to have the opportunity to listen. When we connected, I shared with him what this show is about: self love, coming home to self, growth and healing. And within this context, he was drawn to speak to moving out of victim mindset, and how much healing and growth can come from this. His story and his path – as you will hear - has been filled with rejection and trauma, and it is so inspiring to hear all that he has been through, and where he is now, through shifting out of that victim mentality time and time again.
So I invite you to join me on Your Hearth at Home’s first series. This whole series was recorded in one take; Ali spent over three hours recounting his experiences and journey. I want to start by honouring what it takes to revisit painful experiences, and the gift of sharing this wisdom that it may help and inspire others on their path. One chapter of Ali’s story will be released every two days, for a total of four episodes. So please, settle in and listen to a story of strife and triumph. Let Ali take you on a journey, to experience what it was like to walk his path, from consistently living in survival mode to a spiritual awakening.

Welcome to Episode 13 of Your Hearth at Home!
Please note that this episode was recorded prior to the Black Lives Matter and Amplify Melanated Voices uprisings, which is why they are not discussed in this conversation. I take full responsibility for not having these conversations sooner. I continue to do the work and commit to continuing to amplify melanated voices using my unearned privilege. If you are one who is (un)learning right now and are looking for resources, please be in touch with me via the social media link below.
Today I am excited to be speaking with Brooke Robichaud of Seek Purpose; she is a fellow podcaster, entrepreneur and someone I am grateful to call a friend. In this episode, Brooke shares her story, from growing up in a state of not feeling wanted, to finding her only tool for filling in these gaps in her inner landscape to be drugs and alcohol. She shares about moving through addiction and into sobriety, and how this journey has taken her to confronting places of facing many unknowns, with the beauty being that now she is moving into a space of embracing this discomfort, knowing that she is ‘leveling up’ as she puts it. Brooke tells us about how Seek Purpose was born, and about how she continues to peel back layers of healing and growth both in that space of business and in her personal life.
