    Here's a Few Things We'll Discuss!

Here's a Little More About Fiona!

I’m Fiona, a family photographer of 12 years, marketing mentor since 2019, podcast host, mama to two girls, wife to my high school sweetheart, lover of exploring my beautiful state and teaching other creative women to gain clarity and confidence to build profitable businesses.

Over the past 12 years, I have marketed my photography business through recession + boom economies. I specialize in adventure family photography, snuggly sunset shoots around Seattle and love photographing babies, mamas + headshots in my natural light studio. When it comes to marketing, there is pretty much nothing I love more than helping photographers streamline their visibility so they can focus on creating more art they love.

How Can I Stay Creative Over a Long Photography Career?

Today, we are so lucky to be joined by Florida 30A Photographer Autumn Beury of Hello Miss Lovely as we chat about something I'm so passionate about! And that question? It's this! How Can I Stay Creative Over a Long Photography Career?

    Here's a Few Things We'll Discuss!

    • Autumn's Photography Background
    • Creating Photographs That Will Be a Living Piece of Artwork
    • There's So Many Creative Mediums + Editing Styles, Too!
    • Learning What You Love and Letting Go Of Control

Here's a Little More About Autumn!

I'm Autumn, owner and photographer of Hello Miss Lovely. I'm located on the stunning emerald coast of Northwest Florida, but I've been fortunate enough to travel worldwide, capturing and documenting love. I started my business in 2012 and have been on this beautiful journey since then. I studied Art in college and graduated with my Associates of Arts degree. I have always been so inspired by the way photography can make you feel. The connection it creates is something poetic. Once I picked up a camera, there was no going back. I knew I wanted to photograph people-human connection if you will- and tell their stories. Don't get me wrong, my journey wasn't easy. I had my failures, my tears, my fears, my doubts...but I always learned from them and faced my challenges head on. I grew as an artist, as a woman, and as a mother. My daughters, Luna & Lola, are my little motivators. I want to build an empire for them and show them you truly can do something you love in this life. A decade later-I'm still doing exactly what I love. Photographing beautiful stories of wonderful people.

How Do I Raise Kids and Build a Business, Too?

In this week's photography podcast, we're talking about my most requested topic: balancing motherhood with building a photography business. While my experience is mainly with photography, this episode's a good one for all the working moms building up their creative businesses!

A few of this week's topics!

    • There's No Such Thing as Balance
    • Mom Hat vs. Work Hat
    • Finding Slices of Time
    • Using Timers
    • Identifying Things to Outsource
    • Communication When Schedules are Tight

Wanna know this episode in one quote? I got you!

    "
When you’re raising a family, there is no one right way to do anything. We are all figuring it out. And as a mom with a lot going on? I get it! Sometimes, something has to give... I started shooting heavily when my oldest was six months old. Thirteen years and two more kids later, there’s been a lot of growing pains to what works with our family. Keep in mind that this is not really parenting advice - it’s about ways to balance your business with your family, too! Super excited to share my thoughts with you!"

That change in location and extensive travel lead Rebecca to developing her unique style. As a mom to two girls Rebecca is proud to show that through hard work and dedication you can have the career of your dreams.

How Do I Get Through A Creative Fog in My Photography Business?

In this week's photography podcast, we're talking about a big one! What do you do in a creative fog? Not, like, a time where you're feeling creatively depleted or tired but a creative fog where you just feel a little lost in all the noise? Photographer burnout and creative fogs are common. You've got this! Here's a few of the topics we're about to discuss!

    • Pay Attention To What Makes You Tick
    • Change Your Environment
    • Create Work For Yourself
    • Don't Think About the End Product
    • Don't Think About The Marketing

Wanna know this episode in one quote? I got you!

"With social media, it can be be very easy to compare yourself to others and, when we get in a creative fog, it can be really difficult to pull yourself out of it. Creative fogs, though, are kinda just part of the job:. They’ll be times where you feel really inspired, times where you feel like your hand is basically just a camera, and times where you don’t even know what kind of posing or editing you like.

And y’all! That is totally okay! At its heart, photography is a vulnerable experience. It’s okay that that might impact you every once in a while. And honestly? It’s kinda expected! And as a long term photographer / photography mom? I’m here to tell you that you CAN get through any creative fog ever."

Want to work on this topic this week?

Do the things we talk about in this podcast! Ask yourself:

    • What Makes Your Photographer Heart Sing?
    • Can You Change Your Environment?
    • What Work Would You Like to Make for Yourself?
    • Can You See A Common Thread in Your Photos?

If you're in a creative fog, don't stress! It happens to everyone. You've got this!

How Can I Diversify My Photography Income?

In this week's photography podcast, we talk about:

    • 10 Ways To Diversify Your Photography Income
    • Why This Can Be Helpful
    • Branching Out of Sessions
    • Stock Photography

Wanna know this episode in one quote? I got you!

"As a long time photographer, I can totally understand that, sometimes, we just hit walls. When you’re shooting for the first couple of years, everything feels exciting and new and there’s also a feeling that, eventually, you’ll feel like you’ve "made it”. And while you might hit that feeling, it’s possible that, as a creative, you’ll keep moving the goal post to what “making it” actually is. And that’s totally fine! It’s not the best feeling to constantly move that goal post but, as someone who does that (regrettably, lol), I can say that diversifying my income streams made it so that I feel like I have more things to hit. And because I have a variety of goals? It helps me focus on each one by one."

Want to work on this topic this week?

Zoom out from your work and ask yourself:

    • What value can you bring to photographers, clients, or photography adjacent creatives?
    • Would you like to diversify your income with shooting - ie stock photography - or would you rather add a different type of work into you business?
    • What are your non-shooting strengths? Is it writing? Dying backdrops? Creating templates? Designing? How can you add this to your revenue plans?

How Can Photography Shape You as a Person?

In this week's photography podcast, I'm so thrilled to introduce you to Tyrie Mehaffey, a  wedding photographer based in Dallas, Texas who creates photographs that will bring you joy.

And today? We are two photographers nerding out over one simple question: How can photography shape you as a person? Here's a few things we talk about!

    • Tyrie's Photography Background
    • Capturing Joy and Emotion While Shooting
    • Finding Confidence in Vulnerability

Here's a little more about Tyrie!

Tyrie Mehaffey is a wedding photographer based in Dallas, Texas who loves creating photos that bring out her clients’ personalities. She values images that feel nostalgic, expressive, colorful, joyful, energetic, and scrapbook-worthy.

She has been in the industry since 2013, when she was only an eighth grader, and went full time a year and a half ago after graduating college. Tyrie believes that she has the best job in the entire world because she gets to be creative and work with the best clients on the planet. Her job makes her smile all day, every day!

Tyrie also enjoys colorful flowers, history (what she studied in college!), travelling to places with color and architecture, mentoring and teaching other photographers, and printing out photos. Basically, most of her favorite things have to do with photography!

Should I Feel Stuck in My Photography Style?

In this week's photography podcast, we talk about:

    • Why Having a Style is Awesome.
    • How Style is Inherent
    • Why Style is a Jumping Off Point, Not an End Goal
    • Using Your Style in New Creative Projects

Wanna know this episode in one quote? I got you!

    "H
aving a style is not something that means you have to do the same thing over and over again. It means that there is a common thread that’s in your work. And this thread? It could be visual, emotional, or even location based. As always, there is no one right way to approach anything and, with style, if we all approached it the same, that would be totally boring. And as a creative photographer? The last thing I want is to create boring photographs. I want to create fun ones instead!"

Want to work on this topic this week?

Keep shooting through what you would normally shoot! Have a newborn session? Take your photographs like you normally would, then zoom in for a few and out for a few. What caught your notice? How can you incorporate that in your work?
