Saying thank you is a basic skill that we learn as young children! Most of the time when a child is given a treat, they will say, thank you! If they forget, we can hear the adult correct them by instructing them to say “Thank You!” We wanted our children to acknowledge acts of kindness or treats by immediately saying thank you. However today, saying thank you or expressing appreciation is often overlooked in adult hood. Let’s talk about it! How do you say thank you?

(1 Thessalonians 5:17, Psalm 34:1, 2 Timothy 4:2)  In obedience to The Great Commission we send forth our broadcast to make disciples of all nations and in remembrance of our LORD’S passion we join together in Holy Communion. (Matthew 28:19, Luke 22:19)

Gratitude is the ability to look at every situation and find reasons to be thankful. It is also the secret ingredient of a good attitude. Long-term studies on the practice of gratitude support gratitude’s effectiveness, suggesting that a positive, appreciative attitude contributes to greater success in work, greater health, peak performance in sports and business, a higher sense of well-being, and a faster rate of recovery from illness. Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. Philippians 4:6, KJV

Saturday, November 12, 2016, is Emory Cares International Day of Service! Emory Cares is making its debut in Memphis this year by hosting a Holistic Health Fair in partnership with University of Tennessee Health Science Center! The fair will take place from 9:00am to 1:00pm at the Church Health Wellness Center, located at 1115 Union Avenue, Memphis, TN. The Holistic Health Fair will address some of the medical, spiritual, and legal needs of the community. Alumni from Emory’s schools of medicine, theology, law, and public health as well as Emory College will provide basic health screening, nutritional and first aid education, stress management education, assistance with advance directives, and spiritual encouragement, among many other services. There will also be giveaways and fun activities for kids throughout the day!  We hope to see you there if you are in the Memphis Area!

Borrowing from Kotter’s eight step change model and utilizing our mountain moving faith we can change! We can decide to start a change initiative in our lives with a spirit of accountability to God. Our goal should be to move from merely getting by to that of thriving and living an abundant life. Although Kotter’s model focuses on tangible behaviors and emotional factors to allow for effective change in organizations, we can also utilize it as a strategy for personal change to transform our lives. “The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).” John 10:10, AMPC
