After covering Midsommar wherein we mentioned the 1973 version of The Wicker Man as an obvious inspiration, we decided to go ahead and re-watch both versions of the film. I think if you are a willing student, these films have a lot to teach. The most important lesson of course being, if you find yourself on a secret island the first thing you should do is find the quickest route off that island. Barring that, asking a ton of questions is probably a bad idea despite your job description. This episode we cover the Swedish classic horror romance, Let the Right One In. Ever since the book was released, based on the title of a Morrissey song, it's had our attention. It is a beautiful story about the nature of love and connecting with other people who see you as you are and love you for your authentic self. Having watched this film on it's release and re-watching it now, it's only grown more bittersweet and it really endures. So join your aunties chat about one of their faves, it's streaming on Hulu and consider revisiting it yourself if it's been a while.

This week following our mini-horror marathon, we took advantage of Francis Ford Coppola's version of Bram Stoker's version of Dracula. A gothic romance, a tortured protaganist, an air of spirtualism and mesmerism as the dawn of the new age sees the last of the real magic dying, oh and what of the magic of love you say? I think you'll find it powerful. If you're looking for a different pace of film stuffed with practical effects and every in demand character actor of the early 90s you will be in for a treat.

After a long winter we're springing into horror with Saint Maud. It's a film by writer/director Rose Glass who brings us an intimate portrait into the unraveling of our lead Maud. So as an audience we see the film through Maud's eyes mostly and she is experiencing a spiritual revelation but of course we suspect there may be something more sinister going on beneath the surface. As you may suspect, Your Weird Aunts could not have loved this movie any more, but that's kind of our thing. We hope you give it a listen and see if it's something you might be interested in as well. In our last of the Strange Love Series, we watched Velvet Goldmine, Todd Haynes' late 90s film and Valentine to Glam Rock. This movie stars Toni Collette, Jonathon Rhys Myers, Christian Bale and Ewan McGregor as titans of the Glam era, amalgamations of Iggy Pop, Bowie, Eno, and Marc Bolan, and how their influence helped a generation of alienated kids see what could be possible for their own lives. This week we watched the Norwegian series for Netflix, Ragnarok. A young family returns to their idyllic hometown when a young man discovers he has a particular set of skills, especially when he gets around large hammers. Not only that, he also begins to suspect that the rich, extremely attractive family that also happens to own the one company that is the largest polluter in their small town, may in fact be frost giants in disguise. What coming of age story doesn't include at least some of these elements? We absolutely loved covering this series and cannot wait to see the second season.
