Saying and writing the hard thing… today I meditate on writing non-fiction and memoir. As writers we want our readers to feel something, we want them to receive the messages we are trying to get onto the page. For me, writing and saying the hard thing is about getting to the truth... a truth that is crucial for me in storytelling and is also connected to how I live my spiritual life. Saying the hard thing means we are telling the truth about a thing. Writing the hard thing is getting really close to that raw emotion... it is writing how it felt as it was happening, writing it so that you can feel it as it happened to me. It is about sitting in that raw shit and writing from that place. The stories I love are the stories that make me feel things. Saying what must be said requires courage. Writing has cost me some things...

Writing prompts/meditation:
The thing I am scared to write is...
If i write it...
My biggest fear..
I need to tell this story so...
The worst thing that could happen...
If I write it I will be...
My intention for today...
MY INTENTION for today is to write the uncomfortable and painful thing. I will write the thing that makes me cry. I will remember today that my writing is healing even when it hurts.
